The Development of Christ in Us for New Jerusalem
The prior post shows the Lord Jesus as a man taking the Father God in heaven for His living and His working. This same pattern should be ours in our living and our working with the Lord. This is the present development of New Jerusalem where the Triune God will fully be our life and living.
Whenever we go out to serve the Lord, to represent Him, we should not go to accomplish our purpose, our aim, our goal, our idea, or our intention.…To be ambitious in the Lord’s work is to seek our own glory. God’s glory is the expression of God. Our glory is the expression of our self, which is vainglory (Gal. 5:26).…To take the Father as the source of our life and work is to follow the Lord’s pattern and allow Him to live Himself through us so that we may deny our self, reject our purpose, and give up our ambition. Then the Father will be expressed, His purpose will be accomplished, and He will be glorified.*
Galatians shows us that God desires to develop Himself in us. First, to be revealed in us (1:15-16); second, to live in us and to have us live a life of faith with Him (2:20), and third to be formed, fully developed, in us (4:19). Thus we live by the Spirit and walk, have our daily conduct, by the Spirit (5:25).
This growth leads to Paul’s proclamation in 6:14, “far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me and I to the world.” For New Jerusalem we need both the crucifying of all our natural being and the full formation of the new creation in us.
