The Lord’s Opening of our Mind for the                                  Proper View of New Jerusalem

We “seek the things which are above, where Christ is” and set our mind “on the things which are above” (Col. 3:1-2) to have the proper view of New Jerusalem.

However, we cannot “seek”or “set our mind” by our own effort. We need the Lord’s enlightening. The disciples never seemed to understand the Lord’s parables but often asked Him to explain a New Jerusalemparable to them. In a fuller way, Luke 24:27 says “beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, He explained to them clearly in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

Then verse 45 says “He opened their mind to understand the Scriptures.” Even after that the disciples had to ponder the Scriptures because they were not always instantly understood. Today we also need to ponder (or muse on) the Scriptures and to pray, Lord, open my mind to understand.

Psalm 77:6 is one of several verses in Psalms that includes musing. “I muse with my own heart, and my spirit carefully searches.”

Muse (often translated meditate in the KJV) implies to worship, to converse with oneself, and to speak aloud. To muse on the word is to taste and enjoy it through careful considering. Prayer, speaking to oneself, and praising the Lord may also be included in musing.*

With our spirit we should take this way to muse on and carefully consider before the Lord the description of New Jerusalem.
