The Thirst is Real

    Thirsty (according to urban dictionary)

    1. Too eager to get something (especially play)
    2. Desperate; to crave attention

(Boy running up) “Ay gurl whasup? Look, you lookin real nice, can I get that young number?”

    (Girl under breath) “Thirsty”

Everyone in the world is looking for something. We want love. We want fulfillment. We want to feel purposeful. We want to be happy. We want to look over our lives and be content. All of us as we go through life are in search of something, but we are confused about what is really going to give us that fulfillment.

If you’re a millenial like myself I’m sure you’re all too familiar with the term “thirsty” or “the thirst.”  We usually use it in reference to someone who is clearly seeking attention or putting themselves out there in a way that seems rather desperate. Allow me to bring to your attention John 4:13-14

Jesus replied, ” Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water that I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

So you see in Jesus’ eyes we are all thirsty. Whether we know it or not we are all longing and desperate for purpose. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in our relationships. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in the people that we have sex with. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in the expensive things we buy. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in the degrees we seek. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in the jobs we put before him. Jesus sees us looking for purpose when we’re at the turn up on the weekends. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in that bottle you’re turning up. Jesus sees us looking for purpose in the drugs that make us feel good.

You want to know Jesus’ reaction? Man are they thirsty! Man are they desperate! The irony in this situation is that Jesus already gave you what you needed to overcoming those feelings of inadequacy. In John 4 we see very clearly that Jesus says that the water you’re drinking that you think is going to relieve you of your thirst is only going to cause you to be thirsty again. So when you wake up in bed and look at the person next to you and ask yourself what you’re doing….you’re thirsty again. When you go back to that same relationship that you know you have no business in…you’re thirsty again. When you put on the finest clothes to go turn up and wake up the next morning feeling terrible with a bad headache…you’re thirsty again.

The only true fulfilling thing in this life is Jesus Christ. So many people think that you miss out on life by being a Christian, but really when dedicating your life to Christ you find out what life is really all about! You find purpose in Christ. You find true love in Christ. You find fulfillment in Christ. The things we deem as fun and worth our time now will lead us quickly to our damnation. How much will all those things that pushed you away from God be worth it when you stand before him having to explain why you rejected his son? How much will those things be worth it when you have to explain to God why his Son dying on a cross wasn’t enough for you? The thought of that saddens my heart.

The reason that I can speak to those things and feel confident in my convictions is because I walked in those same shoes. The relationships. The turn up. The fornication. Day after day after day in college my soul longed for something more. Day after day I went back and forth with those relationships thinking man this can’t be it to life. Boy did God have SO much more in store in for me. My genuine prayer became God if there is more to this Christian thing please help me see it and become closer to you. Now almost 2 years after I’ve graduated college my life as I knew it is non-existent. I’m a completely different person and in a completely different space, but it’s all for the better.

So the next time you agree to do something that you know is contrary to God’s will for your life remember this….

    You’re thirsty my friend.

    Yours in love.

Please visit the prayer requests page and let me know if there is something I can be praying about for you. Also feel free to drop questions and comments on the “what’s on your mind” page. I’d love to hear from you all!

I am simply an everyday girl with the favor of God on her life. I love the things that normal people love....food, wine, people, but most importantly I live a life surrendered to Christ. I currently live in Richmond, VA but am originally from TN. I'm a country girl at heart with a love for people that I simply cannot deny. I invite you to share with me in my walk with Christ.
