The Tree of Life Shows Christ is Available

Revelation 22:1 presents the river of life and 22:2 continues “and on this side and on that side of the river was the tree of life…”

New JerusalemThe fact that the one tree of life grows on the two sides of the river indicates that the tree of life is a vine, spreading and proceeding along the flow of the water of life for God’s people to receive and enjoy. It fulfills, for eternity, what God intended from the beginning (Gen. 2:9). The tree of life was closed to man due to his fall (Gen. 3:22-24), but was opened to the believers by the redemption of Christ (Heb. 10:19-20). Today the enjoyment of Christ as the tree of life is the believers’ common portion (John 6:35, 57).*   106

The tree growing on both sides of the river is a vine. This matches the beginning of John 15, “I am the true vine.” He grows as a vine to be accessible to all. In the gospels the Lord Jesus invited everyone to come to Him. For example, His word in John 6:37 is “him who comes to Me I shall by no means cast out.”

Many came to Him for healing, which saved each one from a negative situation. But He also came for a positive purpose as the bread of life to be our life supply so that “he who comes to Me shall by no means hunger” (John 6:35). And when we eat Him as the bread, He promised that we live because of Him (6:57).

In New Jerusalem there will be no need of healing and no hunger but He will still be our life supply and eternally we will live because of Him.

Sehnsucht in the Blue Ridge Mountains — Nicole O'Meara

Sehnsucht is hard to put into words, as can be seen in my painfully limited ability to describe what I felt at a vista in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some call it joy. Some called it wistful longing for something you can’t explain. It has been called melancholy and nostalgia. It is all of that, and mo
