The Two Bikes

A pushbike

A motorbike

O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.” Psalm 68:35

I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.” Psalm 71:16

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Ephesians 6:10

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

Driving down a winding, hilly road, I noticed two people on pushbikes. They were pedaling along looking extremely tired and sweaty, when a flash two-wheeler motorbike came cruising around the corner and roared up the hill.

What a difference I could see between the two bikes! One costs so much energy, time and sweat. The other one has so much power and energy.

These two bikes remind me of life! The pushbike represents ourselves, and the motorbike represents Jesus Christ. Some people pedal pushbikes; they are trusting their own efforts to get them to Heaven. Others are riding motorbikes; they are trusting Jesus Christ to save them.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5

For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9

I came to a place in my life when I realized that I was trusting in my prayers. My trust was in the wrong place. I was actually depending on what I had done, although I hadn't thought of it that way before. I am now trusting in the sacrifice Jesus Christ made to pay for my sin. Some people trust in their good works or in the fact that they go to church or have been baptized.

What is your trust in? Are you depending on what Jesus has done, or in what you have done? Are you on the motorbike or the pushbike? If someone asked you, “Why should God let you into Heaven?” What would your answer be? “Because I …?” Or “Because Jesus …?” Have a good think about this question!

This lesson does not only apply to salvation. What do we do with our everyday problems? Do we take them to God and trust Him to work them out, or do we try to face them in our own strength? By praying about our problems and then trusting God to help us, we will have God's strength and peace.

Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Which bike are you on? Are you trying or trusting?
