The Unfailing Love Of God Is Wonderful
Answer my prayers, O God, for your unfailing love is wonderful. Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful. Psalm 69:16
The central theme of Christianity revolves around the unfailing love of God. The dictionary defines unfailing as something without error or fault and reliable or constant.
We know what unfailing means but have difficulty understanding its total concept. Why? Because everything we deal with has the possibility of failing in one way or another.
Have you ever called a customer service number only to hear that their computers were down? Failure! Why does anyone call a tow truck? Because something in their car failed.
Some people capitalize on failures occurring between people. The courts regularly experience an abundance of cases, from failed marriages to those who fail others in society.
King David understood failure all too well in his life. In fact, he began Psalm 69 by laying out some of his own failures before God.
Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me. Psalm 69:1-2
David didn’t write that while standing in the middle of a river sinking in its muddy mire. No, he painted a picture for us to visualize what his problems felt like to him.
Can you relate to the feelings David identified in those two verses? If not, maybe you’ve experienced the physical symptoms he described in the next verse.
I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me. Psalm 69:3

Keep Seeking God
He said he made a fool of himself because of his sin and humiliated his friends. Plus, people insulted him and couldn’t help but to make fun of him. But he didn’t stop seeking the Lord.
But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. Psalm 69:13
David believed without a doubt in the unfailing love of God. He recalled when Moses led God’s people through the parted Red Sea on dry ground. He wanted God to part the waters in his life.
Rescue me from the mud; don’t let me sink any deeper! Save me from those who hate me, and pull me from these deep waters. Don’t let the floods overwhelm me, or the deep waters swallow me, or the pit of death devour me. Psalm 69:14-15
He went on to say how badly his enemies treated him, making him suffer and leaving him in pain. He pleaded for God to rescue him by his saving power and unfailing love.
Throughout the Psalms, David referred to the unfailing love of God many times. Whenever the king failed, or his enemies pursued him, he reached out to the Lord.

David Called on the Unfailing Love of God
- Let your unfailing love surround us, God, for our hope is in you alone. Psalm 33:22
- But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. Psalm 52:8
- In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies. Psalm 59:10
- God, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Psalm 86:5
- I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O God, supported me. Psalm 94:18
God extended His unfailing love to David, and the king recommitted himself to the Lord. His attitude changed to praising His wonderful name.
Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving. For this will please the Lord more than sacrificing cattle, more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves. Psalm 69:30-31
God wants our praise and obedience more than anything we can do for Him or give Him. When we trust God even during rough times in our lives, it will encourage others.
The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. For the Lord hears the cries of the needy; he does not despise his imprisoned people. Psalm 69:32-33
We must look beyond our circumstances and get caught up in praising Him. Then, we will begin to see God and His unfailing creation, including His love for us, His created.
Praise him, O heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them. For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and settle in their own land. Psalm 69:34-35

Jesus Revealed the Unfailing Love of God
Even though all of mankind became sinful, the Lord had a plan to bring us back to Him. God demonstrated His unfailing love when He sent His one and only Son to die on the cross.
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17
The Apostle John referred to the love of God in the first few verses of his gospel. He said that Jesus, the Son of God, full of unfailing love and faithfulness, made his home among us.
When Jesus came onto the scene, everything in the world changed. It not only changed for the Jewish people, but it changed for the entire world. Jesus became our only way to salvation.
For the law was given through Moses, but the unfailing love and faithfulness of God came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
Oh God, thank you for your love towards us as we continually work towards our unfailing commitment to you.
