The Value of Discipleship

I wrote an article a few years ago on ‘The Importance of Finding your Tribe’ and also ‘Plugging into Community‘ this message right now resonates even more than ever.
I was in so much awe listening to the Dear Future Wifey podcast and their interview with the Shirer’s, Priscilla and Jerry Shirer. It was such an enlightening episode.
The importance of submitting to community. One of the key things God keeps drumming into my subconsciousness is that ‘it is not about me’. It is very hard to accept this because we live in a selfish and self conscious society. The culture of God’s kingdom is that we are called to lay down our lives, to take up our cross and to submit to God’s ultimate plan and goal for us.

This were the first few words I typed in November 2024 when I started this blog post. However, my direction has changed slightly as I have come to enjoy and tap more into the beauty of discipleship. The last few weeks of the year were very interesting and I found myself having to lean heavily on my community and loved ones.

The value of discipleship is that we submit to having trusted believers guide and speak words of life over us. When we get to a stage where we no longer know what to do or we cannot quite explain how things seem to be going.

Discipleship is when we are plugged into a community with someone that has walked through what we are going through and can safely guide us through with biblical wisdom and real life experiences.

    Each One Teach One

The idea that God causes all thing to work together for our good is universal because then we know that what we encounter is not just for us. But, also so we can also comfort others with the solace we have found in God’s word and through His Holy Spirit.

“He’s the one who comforts us in all our trouble so that we can comfort other people who are in every kind of trouble. We offer the same comfort that we ourselves received from God.” 1 Corinthians 1:4 (CEB)

I am incredibly grateful to God for the amazing community He blessed me with. I would like to continue to encourage each of us to build our communities, to invest in creating avenues where we can be discipled well and effectively in 2025. I believe that was a huge saving grace for me in 2024 and I look forward to what the Holy Spirit continues to do in 2025 in this area.

May God continue to strengthen each of us to be what He has created and purposed us to be. May Christ be glorified in us. May our lives showcase His goodness, kindness and faithfulness. May 2025 be the year we are richly discipled and may we also richly disciple those that are brought into our lives, in Jesus mighty name. AMEN!

    Happy New Year 2025!
