Three Lives; One is for New Jerusalem

The New Testament shows two lives in every human being, our physical life (Greek bios) and our soul life (Greek psuche). The New Testament also presents another life, the eternal, divine life of God (Greek zoe) which we can receive by confessing our sins and believing in Jesus. This life will New Jerusalemgrow in us and constitute us into New Jerusalem.

When we receive Jesus Christ, who is “the life” we have these three lives in the three parts of our being—eternal life in our spirit, soul life in our soul, and physical life in our body.

Romans 8:10 says, “if Christ is in you…the spirit is life because of righteousness.” The spirit is our human spirit, which was dead (Eph. 2:1, 5) before we received Jesus Christ as our righteousness and life. Only by this life can we express God to cooperate with Him for carrying out His purpose, consummating in New Jerusalem.

In the gospel of John, Jesus Christ proclaimed that He is “the life.” Since He is in us, in our spirit, our spirit is life. Colossians 1:27 declares that Christ is in us and 3:4 states that Christ is our life. “The Lord be with your spirit” (2 Tim. 4:22).

This is the life which aims at New Jerusalem and constitutes us into the city. In New Jerusalem there is the river of life and the tree of life to supply us eternally. The city is one hundred percent in this life with no possibility of death, darkness, or any other negative thing. Praise Him that He has become life to us!

NT verses with zoe: John 3:15, 16, 36; Acts 5:20; Rom. 6:4; Eph. 4:18; Titus 1:2; 1 John 1:1-2; Rev. 2:7; 22:1-2 + about 100 more.
