Uncovering Hidden Shame and Recovering the Real You - Denise Pass

Shame RX: Hidden things have a way of becoming found. Ready or not.

2 Corinthians 4:2 (BLB)

“But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor falsifying the word of God, but by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’s conscience before God.”

Getting dressed in front of the mirror, we try to tidy ourselves up, don’t we? Mask the flaws (as we perceive them to be) and put our best side forward to the world.

And while it can give a boost to our confidence to look as well as we can, a nagging sense of our looming imperfections taunt us underneath.

It might be what we think others think about us.

It might be our appearance.

It might be our actions.

It might be our past.

Whatever it is, that hidden thing will not stay hidden forever. Why not bring it out and face it, so it can stop sapping your life of joy?

We cannot defeat shame if we are not willing to face it.

Shame cannot really be hidden. It can only be quieted for a while, while we try to call it by another name. And hidden things have a way of becoming found. Ready or not.

But as we examine ourselves in light of God’s word, He is faithful to reveal what is hidden so we can be set free. And suddenly we discover that the real us is not something to be ashamed of. Shame off you, friends!
