We Are Born Where? - Bravester

This is such a crazy and wonderful thought. My mind is whirling at the application of it.

“The glory of the human condition is that we are made in the image of God. And yet in his ingenious and bewildering design, God saw fit to place the regions for creation and excreting together. As Saint Augustine famously put it, ‘We are born between feces and urine.’ “ p. 29, Disquiet Time

Wow. Think about that. How can you not think about that? Wow.

This is yet another example of the paradox of God. By stooping down God created us out of dirt.  He spoke the rest of creation into being.  But for humankind, He personally got involved in that part of creation.  He didn’t choose stardust or gold dust, He chose dirt and created wondrously beautiful creatures.  Reminds me of those popular verses in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. You know the ones about for everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die; plant and harvest; tear down and build up, grieve and dance, etc.  With everything good there is something bad.  But they always work together for good because that is how God redeems everything. Romans 8:28 as truth.  This is the beauty of our Sovereign God.  Out of our ashes He always creates beauty.

So back to that quote. This is a picture of our very creation. Our very identity which we are born with.  Our creation that is “beautifully and wonderfully made.” We are wonderfully made with complexity and purpose then birthed between feces and urine. Wow.

Wow.
