We Are His House — Hebrews 3:6a

    Aug 29, 2025 8

In verse 5, we saw that Moses was faithful as a servant in God’s house. Now, in the following phrase in verse 6, we see that Jesus is faithful as the Son, and because of Him, we discover something remarkable about ourselves.

    Hebrews 3:6a says:

“But Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house…”

    Our Identity in Christ

Through the work of Jesus, we are now the very household of God. Not a physical building. Not a temple made with hands. But a people gathered to belong to Him.

God’s house is where He dwells. His household is where His presence is found. And through Jesus, by His Spirit, we are that house. We are the family of God, brought together not by bloodline or heritage but by grace.

This means that the Christian life is never just “me and Jesus.” To belong to Jesus is to belong to His people. To be saved by Him is to be built into His household.

A Place of Refuge, Security, and Hope

What does it mean to be His house? It means we are a people marked by refuge, security, and hope.

In Christ, we find refuge from sin, shame, and guilt. We are safe in His forgiveness.

In Christ, we find security for today. Our lives are held in His hands.

In Christ, we find hope for tomorrow. Our future is resurrection, glory, and life with Him.

This is who we are together — the household of God, built by Jesus, shaped by His presence, and filled with His Spirit.

    Living It Out

So how do we live this out?

    • Lean on one another. If we are God’s house together, we need each other. Don’t try to follow Jesus alone. Be part of the household of faith, where encouragement, accountability, and love are shared.
    • Open the doors wide. God’s house is a home for more people to come in. Who in your life needs the refuge, security, and hope that Christ offers? Pray for them. Invite them. Share the good news of Jesus with them.
    • Remember who you are. When you feel weighed down or overwhelmed, remind yourself: “I belong to the household of God. I am His. He dwells with me. My life is built on Him.”

    Reflection

How can you live more intentionally as part of God’s household this week — leaning on others, opening the doors wide, and remembering your identity in Christ?
