What are the functions of the Blood of Jesus? Part-1 - Raising Zion
We can find many functions of the Blood of Jesus, mentioned in the Word of God. Of the many functions, here are a few of them for us to meditate on:
Forgiveness of sins through the blood of Jesus
In the Old Testament period, the Israelites brought animals for sacrifice, according to what they were able to afford, to the priest. It could be a bullock, or a lamb, or sheep or even a pair of turtle doves. The priest would then kill the sacrifice, by laying his hand on it.
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Hebrews 9:22.
However, the blood of bulls and rams in the Old Testament, could not deliver them completely, out of their sins. Jesus shed His pure and innocent blood for us, to deliver us completely and for the remission (forgiveness) of our sins. Through His death on the Cross, Jesus destroyed him that had the power of death (the devil). And He delivered us who through fear of death, were subject to bondage. Hebrews 2:14,15. The blood of Jesus forgives us of our sins.
Purges our dead conscience
The blood of Jesus not only forgives our sins and reconciles us back to God, it also purges us from our dead conscience. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14.
Sin corrupts the conscience. The more we sin and don’t repent, that much more the power of sin works adversely in us, to the extent of deadening our conscience. In such a case, only the blood of Jesus can cleanse and sanctify the dead conscience and revive it again. His blood purifies our dead conscience to help us serve the living God.
Eternal redemption by the blood of Jesus
The blood of Jesus gave us Eternal redemption. How?
But when Christ appeared as a High Priest of the good things to come [that is, true spiritual worship], He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not a part of this [material] creation. 12 He went once for all into the Holy Place [the Holy of Holies of heaven, into the presence of God], and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, having obtained and secured eternal redemption [that is, the salvation of all who personally believe in Him as Savior]. Hebrews 9:11,12.
Inside the Tabernacle in the Old Testament, the High Priest would enter only once a year with blood. He would sprinkle that blood upon the veil for his sins and the sins of others. However, the death of Jesus paved the way for the New Testament Church to enter into the Most Holy Place. He separated the middle wall of partition and opened a new and a living way for us.
