What sustains your faith in tough times?

Ever felt as though something was testing your faith? It is similar to being amid a storm, with chaos and swirling all around you. However, during those times, what keeps you grounded? Let us talk about what keeps our faith strong in difficult circumstances.

Sources of sustenance

Personal experiences are a big one. Consider the instances in which you overcame a challenging situation and persevered. We all have personal accounts of such experiences when we truly and palpably sensed God's presence.

There is also an encouraging community. When you are having difficulties, it helps to have people in your life who hold similar values. It can be a true lifeline to have people to lean on and pray with during difficult times, whether they are your church family or a close group of friends.

And let us not forget about the little things – the practices and rituals that keep us connected to our faith. It could be praying, reading the Bible, or just taking a moment to be still and listen; these are the things that remind us of what we believe, even when everything else feels uncertain.

The power of hope

Hope sustains us when everything seems hopeless, and there is no way out. It leads the way even when we cannot see it, much like a light in the dark.

Hope is a significant theme in the Bible. God's promises and tales of restoration and redemption remind us that we are not alone, and that hope endures, even in the most trying circumstances.

So, how do we maintain hope when times are difficult? It begins with focusing on the positive, even in seemingly bad circumstances. It entails clinging to God's promises even when they appear too good to be true. It also entails surrounding ourselves with positive, uplifting people who constantly reassure us of our worth and love.

Thus, let us cling to the things that keep us going through life's ups and downs, knowing that there is always hope and that we are never alone, even in the darkest circumstances.

House of Prayer or Den of Thieves?

On the Monday of Holy Week, Jesus entered the Temple and cleansed it of corruption and commerce. I have studied and preached on the cleansing of the Temple many times in my life, but this year I decided to focus on Luke’s account, rather than Matthew or Mark (or even John’s possibly out-of-order story in his second chapter).“And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers
