What's the point of music? - Raising Zion

Music is powerful. It can influence our emotions in ways we can never really understand. It has it’s effects, no one can deny. It builds an atmosphere, one that directs us to a certain way of life.

Where did Music originate? Heaven.

Heaven has a host of angels who sing Holy, Holy, Holy around the throne of God. Isaiah, the mighty prophet, saw a great sight that left him undone (Isaiah 6:5). The holiness of God exposed his true state, he humbled himself immediately before the presence of God. A prophet knows the value of the mouth, his/her lips are used by God to unfold mighty works. We need to worship God in the beauty of holiness.

Singing and music abounds in Heaven. Heaven is full of Gods glory. Apostle John accounts for the Seraphims in Revelation 4:8, how they give glory day and night to God.

We are called to praise God with our whole being. We were created to worship and be instruments of Gods glory and praise. Our lifestyle and talents are blessed for Gods glory.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (1 Peter 2:9)

To be full of praise and have our hearts rooted in God, we must be rich in the Word of God. Walking in wisdom and purity, in fellowship, encouraging one another, meditating in the Word of God day and night.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:17)

When the word of God is our rich resource, we end up singing praises with understanding. It’s not a performance, it’s pure unadulterated worship.

For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. (Psalms 47:7)

When David played the harp, an evil spirit fled from Saul. Music that glorifies God delivers the captive from his poor mental and emotional state. With mental health problems rising in the world today, the need of the hour is music that honours God. The spirit of man needs deliverance from depression, loneliness, suicidal thoughts and worries. Sing His praise, shout out loud, give Jesus all the glory! Jesus came to set the captives free.

What are you listening to? Who are you listening to? If you are listening to music which does not sing praise and give due glory to God, STOP! Please consider the beautiful work of God that is You. Fearfully and wonderfully made, precious in His sight, to be perfect and holy, blameless for the day of Christ.
