When Does Hope Happen? - Denise Pass

Hope Discovery of the Day:

Hope happens when we need it most.

Scripture of the Day:

1 Peter 1:13

“Set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Real Hope is not found when everything is right. No, that hope is easy. Authentic Hope happens when we need it most. Right smack dab in the middle of our greatest need, we see our real need – hope. We would not have seen it had we not been brought to a place of desperation. And that desperate place brought us to our one real hope – Jesus Christ.

Hope is found in an unlikely place. Amidst the debris of life’s sorrows, hope emerges. It is birthed in a heart that cries out to the living God when the hope we began with cannot carry us any longer.

We hope now, but our hope is fixed on the future – on things to come. Hoping for things to come here on earth is merely a desire, but hoping in God’s promises is firm.

~ When our burdens are great.

~ When we are in need.

~ When we look at our God and see He is enough.

~ When we replace our fears with His perfect peace.

Perhaps some reading this might be in a season where choosing to hope seems impossible. This hope I speak of is not just produced at the will of man, though. It is formed by God in souls willing to believe in Him and His promises, not in just what they can see. John Piper said it will, “hope is faith in the future tense. So most of faith is hope.” Romans 10:17 says “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God”.

Romans 10:17 says “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God”. When we choose to look to God’s Word instead of our troubles, when we believe God’s promises over our stark reality, this is when hope happens. And this hope? No one can take it away – because it is not dependent upon anything this earth provides.

Lord, thank you for helping us to hope when hoping seems futile. Help us to never grow weary in life’s troubles and to trust You at all times.
