Women often express their desire for security. Security means different things to different people. One primary example of some people’s expectations for security is having financial security.
Lots of women want to marry for the sake of security. To some, security is having a husband who provides at least food, clothing, shelter and finances for the family. The material aspect of security seems to take priority for many women.
In addition, a lot of women like the idea that they have someone to share their lives with. It is good to want to have someone to share life with and it’s good to find that person.
But…The meaning of true security is not limited to having finances, a roof over one’s head and being married. Security is being safe in the arms of Jesus first and foremost.
• Security in Christ is first and foremost and the ultimate form of security. Some people are not Christians, but for them also simply being married does not mean security.
• Being safe spiritually, emotionally, physically and otherwise is security.
• A monogamous, God-glorifying marriage is a lot more secure than a marriage where a husband simply makes a lot of money and provides material things. Yet, there is infidelity or various types of abuse.
Many women seem to fixate on the finances. They fixate on the house with the picket fence. They fixate on the cars, the vacations, the situation of being married with children, or being married without children. Some believe those things mean security.
Those things are not necessarily security. The quality of their situation determines the level of security. If it is a safe (though imperfect) situation where everyone thrives in the present, in the future and will leave a good legacy, this is a secure situation.
It’s a reminder to us as women of God that we must place character before money. We must place character before material things. God is number one. God looks at the heart. When the heart is right, everything else false into place.
