Why Give?

Bible

It’s the season of giving.

We give to those we love and to those in need.  Some of us give to those we don’t even know.

We give because God gave first.

A Child Is Born

He demonstrated His love for us by sending the Messiah, the Promised One to a bed of hay in a manger.

Worldly gifts offered to a Heavenly King.

Away in a Manger

What could we possibly give that would demonstrate a gift of love for the birthday of the King of Glory?  His love never demands that we give, it only desires that we give ourselves. Our hearts.  Our lives.

“Is not the festive season when families and friends exchange gifts in memory of The Gift laid on the altar of the world for the redemption of the human race, the most appropriate time to consecrate a portion from abounding riches and scant poverty to send forth the good tidings of great joy into all the earth?”

Every year we give a gift to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, a charitable gift (named in honor of MIss Lottie Moon, missionary to China), to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.  EVERY SINGLE PENNY of this special offering goes directly to support International Missionaries all over the world.
These missionary friends just completed their first year in Madagascar and THIS is why we give:

Not all of us are called to leave our homes and take the message of the Good News of Jesus to the unreached peoples of the world, but all of us are called to do our part.
Giving something does help accomplish the call for all of us to do something, and we can do so much more TOGETHER than we could ever do alone!

Won’t you consider giving beyond your normal boundaries?  There’s just something about giving to a cause greater than self-satisfaction.  Give a gift that truly says, “Happy Birthday, Jesus!”

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.  Matthew 28:19-20
