And now, let inspiration come in:
Back in 1970, my family stood in a sweltering St. Louis courtroom on the 4th of July. It was over 100 degrees outside, but we hardly noticed. Our hearts were pounding with anticipation. My brother was 16, I was 17, and together with our parents, we were about to experience a moment that would forever change our lives.
“Raise your right hand,” the immigration officer instructed.
We did. And with solemn conviction, we renounced our allegiance to Bolivia and pledged our loyalty to the United States of America. In that moment, we became citizens. Fireworks burst outside, and inside, our hearts were exploding with gratitude and awe.
But there’s another kind of allegiance we often make — without even realizing it.
When the world grows dark, headlines frighten us, and life becomes uncertain, many of us subtly shift our allegiance. We may still sing on Sundays, raise our hands in worship, and profess our faith, but come Monday, we become citizens of a different land — the land of worry.
Have you been there? On Sunday, we declare our trust in God. By Tuesday, fear creeps in. We read the news, we see the chaos, and without even knowing it, we start speaking the language of fear. We pledge allegiance to anxiety, not because we want to — but because worry feels more familiar than faith.
Yet God offers us something infinitely better.
He calls us to renew our allegiance — not to a nation, but to His Kingdom. A Kingdom where peace rules, not panic. Where His provision sustains us daily. Where faith becomes the language we speak.
Jesus reminds us: “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)
When we live as citizens of His Kingdom, we find strength in His promises, peace in His presence, and joy even in the face of uncertainty. We declare with confidence: “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2)
So why do we doubt? Why do we fear?
Psalm 91 gives us the answer to anxiety: “Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence... You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day… nor the plague that destroys at midday.” (Psalm 91:3-6)
No matter the news, the violence, the division, or the uncertainty — we are governed by the Most High God. We are citizens of God’s Kingdom, and Christ is our commanding General. He leads us not into fear, but into victory.
When we wonder if we’ll have enough for tomorrow, we remember: His provision is enough for today.
Today is the perfect day to renew your allegiance to the God who never fails.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You that You have me, my family, and those reading this writing covered — today and every day to come. Thank You for the peace You bring at night, even when the world feels unsteady. I praise You for whispering reassurance into my soul and removing worry from my mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
When will you begin your fear-free life?
