Inevitable Inevitability
The clock keeps ticking.
The sun comes up.
The alarm goes off.
And I’m getting older.
It is an inevitable inevitability.
And the alternative–well, it’s already decided.
I know where I’ve been and I can only imagine what tomorrow might bring.
And I need to embrace it.
Some things we have control over, others we don’t.
But I know Who does.
Haggai is probably not a book that you have visited often. I am learning so much from these prophets that God used to warn His people when they took a turn in the wrong direction.
This book is a vivid reminder of how busy we really are–of how much life can consume us to the point that, if we’re not careful, we neglect the things of God.
The very real danger here is not that we are doing bad things, but that in our comings and goings, we get our priorities out of whack.
“You expected much, but then it amounted to little. When you brought the harvest to your house, I ruined it. Why?” This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts. “Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house. Haggai 1:9
I am busy. We are all busy–but life is full of choices that we should never treat casually. If we truly believe that each day is a gift–a gift that our creator God has given us, then we have a responsibility to seek His counsel.
His guidance.
His direction.
You might be making huge decisions in your life, or you may just be at a point in your journey where your days are pretty much pre-determined. The path that we take may not mean changing priorities–it may just be about a change of attitude.
A change of heart.
“Why am I doing what I am doing?” “How will this impact eternity?” “Who am I trying to please?” “Will I regret this tomorrow?” “What is the message that this activity is sending my children?”
It is inevitable.
The choices I make today impact tomorrow. This heart of mine can be filled with regret, or I can live every day with a fresh desire to walk closely with the Lord. No one can choose that for me. No amount of religious activity can fill those shoes.
But Jesus can. He doesn’t just walk beside you,
He goes before you.
The Light of the world wants to illuminate your path, and help you on this journey. We can stumble through the darkness on our own, but why would we? Following Him means that even when the path gets difficult, we can trust that He is going to get us through to the other side.
