Resolutions: New Year, New You? Oh Boy. - Grit & Grace

How has it been a month since I last shared with you?  Some new year’s resolutions might be in order.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Here we are, a new year is upon us once again.  2020 is just a few weeks old.  If you’re the resolution-writing type, that means your list of intentions for the year is just a few weeks old too.  Maybe writing resolutions is a bit too overwhelming for you, and choosing one word for the year is more doable.

Even though we’re only a few weeks in, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard it for a while. I know I have. It’s pretty standard in the days, weeks, and months leading up to a new year. You know what I’m talking about:

New year, new you.

Inevitably, every January turns towards overhauling all. the. things.  We promise ourselves that this year will be different, so everything has to change.  Why?  Because we’ve done it all wrong.  Time to punish ourselves for the many ways we blew it last year.  Our punishment for being imperfect?  An overwhelming and unattainable list of New Year’s resolutions.

I am proposing a different approach this year: looking back in gratitude to help us look forward to a new year with confidence, and NOT focusing on all that went wrong that we need to change.

Keep moving forward.

As I work towards setting my own goals for 2020, which include writing goals, which include writing goals for this blog space, I wanted to equip you with a few resources to help with a renewed new year, new you focus.

“How can four small words carry such weight? The pressure feels like a burden. I’m overwhelmed and exhausted just at the idea.”  New Year, New You?  No Thanks., Kaitlyn Bouchillon

I received Kaitlyn’s latest blog post in my inbox the day after I turned in my latest Miami Moms Blog contribution:  Resolutions:  New Year, New You?  Not Really.

I was pretty convinced at that point that this was a message the Lord really wanted me to pay attention to.

We are so much more than…
our fears, mistakes, shortcomings, or our past.

We are stories of redemption.
