Cheater-Speak: "Yes, I slept with him. But that is not why I am divorcing you!" - Divorce Minister

“Yes, I slept with him. But that is not why I am divorcing you,” says remorseless Cheater.

A cheater saying such a thing is a cheater who is desperate to control how people see them in the divorce.

They understand that Christians may look upon them poorly once their adultery is known. So, they want to change the subject and point to the faithful spouse instead of the marriage ending sin of their adultery.

For those who might be taken in by this ploy, I would point out that adultery utterly destroys a marriage. The marriage may have been ill with its own version of “cancer;” however, adultery is like a bullet to its head. It’s the bullet that killed the marriage, not the “cancer.”

A cheater who is denying the destruction of the adultery is minimizing their sin and is far from repentant. They are unwilling to see and own the damage their sins created.

“Yes, I slept with him. But that is not why I am divorcing you,” says Cheater.

“But your clearly unrepentant, adulterous sin IS what killed our marriage, and I won’t lie about that,” replies Faithful Spouse.

Cheater Still Blaming Spouse - Divorce Minister

“Sure, I cheated in the past. But I sorted that with my individual therapist. We agreed my emotional affair was really just a symptom of my marriage problems,” says Cheater. So much of the pastoral or other Christian counseling is biased towards “saving” the marriage. This bias can lead to the pastor glossing over a … Continue reading "Cheater Still Blaming Spouse"
