Mary's Faith: Greatest model for motherhood

If people ask you about your dream for your child, every mother would say they want all the best for their child. 

As mothers, we want to witness our kids fulfill their dreams and have the most remarkable life. 

But as for Mary, before giving birth to Jesus Christ, she already knew his future. Indeed, it was a noble calling to save the world. However, for a mother, it was still torturing. 

It takes deep faith for a mother to accept that kind of future for her child.

Aside from this, a firm belief that God’s plan is the best for her child is needed, even if it would take his life.

Behind the greatest sacrifice of Jesus Christ, when he died on the cross to save the world, is the greatest love of His mother, Mary. 

God has given her the greatest calling for a mother. She would bear a child and raise him into the man God designed him to be. 

Then, witness his pain and his death. No mother would want that kind of future for her child or children.

Mary showed the most remarkable example of a faithful mother through her faith.

Mary’s Faith made her accept God’s plan

In Luke 1:27-38, Angel Gabriel tells Mary that God highly favors her. 

Angel Gabriel told her that God wanted her to conceive and give birth to a son, and she would call him Jesus when Mary knew that the Holy Spirit would come to her and overshadow her. She did not doubt and said firmly that she was God’s servant.

She said that may the angel’s word be fulfilled. 

Despite the situation that she is about to marry Joseph, she still obeys God. 

Because of her faith, she did not ask Angel Gabriel about Joseph and other people’s reactions once they knew ready pregnant even before the wedding.

Mary’s Support for Jesus During Crucifixion

John 19:25 says Mary stood near his cross with his sister, Mary, the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene. 

If your faith is not as strong as Mary’s, I do not think you could carry on and still allow God’s plan to happen when you see your son covered in his blood and about to die in front of many people.

Imagine that kind of faith to just simply obey God and make His plan happen. 

Mary could have questioned God or resisted God’s plan; after all, Jesus came from her. Yet, Mary chose to obey God and allow Him to use her womb for His plan. 

No woman could ever do that, but because of Mary’s Faith, she embraced God’s plan for her son.

What Kind of Mother is Mary?

Mary is the perfect epitome of a good mother. This was seen several times in the Bible.

Faithful Mother

Mary did not question God for His plans for her child. She gave him a total “yes” when Angel Gabriel told her God’s plan.

As mothers, when we learn that we are bearing a child, we have set our plans and dreams for them.

We do everything for them to have a bright future. But we cannot control our child’s future. 

There could be things that we, as mothers, would wish to control, but we cannot. 

We can also be like Mary: no matter how painful it is to see her son die, she still trusted the Lord completely. She holds on to her faith that God’s plan for her son is way better than hers. 

If Mary had intervened in Jesus’ Death, it would have been difficult for Jesus to save the world.

Although we have incredible dreams for our kids, trusting God in His plans for them is still better. 

God’s dream is way better than ours. As mothers, we must trust God that he would not harm our kids but would give them hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 says God knows his plan for you, plan to prosper and give hope and a future.  

Supportive Mother

Just like any mother would do, Mary is a supportive Mother. She supported Jesus in his preaching and teaching.

Despite her love for his son, she even allowed God for his ultimate sacrifice. 

Although supportive, we can still see that she cares and worries about her son.

In Luke 2: 41-51, Mary was anxious about not seeing her son for three days and found him in the temple courts sitting among the teachers, listening and asking them questions.

Mary and Joseph were anxiously looking for him. 

Yet, they were astonished since everyone who heard Jesus was amazed at his understanding and answers. 

Mary treasured all these things in her heart. Jesus grew in wisdom and stature. He grew up having God’s favor.

Whatever our child or children want to become in the future, we have to be like Mary.

We have to show our support as young as they are so that they can be confident enough to achieve their dreams.

Pure, Noble Mother

Mary did not just set an example for mothers but also for unmarried ladies and teenage girls. Before she had Jesus, she was pure, and God pleased her. 

Mary was not divine and was not excused from getting tempted, especially because she was about to get married to Joseph.

However, what made her pleased with God was her commitment to keeping her clean and pure.

Just like Mary, we as mothers should also resist temptations. We need to choose purity in God’s eyes.

In Proverbs 31:28-29, a good woman’s children arise and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her.

As a mother who pleases God, you will surpass many women who do noble things.

Our child needs a role model of who they will become. If you want to raise a good man that pleases the Lord, it should start with us.

Prayerful Mother

Acts 1:14 says that the disciples of Jesus Christ and her mother, Mary, and his brothers all joined together and constantly prayed. 

Mary shows that she is a prayerful mother. This is one reason she remained firm in her faith despite what happened to her son. 

Although we, as mothers, could do many things and sacrifice everything for our children, we could not survive without prayer. 

Prayer is our weapon to win our battles as mothers. Mary is prayerful. That is why God is pleased with her. She prays to God, which is why she can resist temptations. 

She prays to God so that she can trust God even in her greatest trial as a mother.
