Have you ever paused to ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing?

With how busy life is these days, it’s easy to get caught up in achieving goals or chasing dreams without truly examining the intentions behind them. But I’ve come to realize something important: intentions matter, a lot.

If you’re embarking on a journey, especially one that’s significant, and deep down, you feel uneasy about your reasons for doing it, maybe it’s time to take a step back.

Sometimes, the first step forward is actually returning home to check your heart and realign your intentions.

    The β€œWhy” Behind Your Actions

Let’s take a moment to reflect:

β€’ Why do you want to be successful or wealthy?

β€’ Why do you share your gifts, whether it’s preaching, teaching, or creating?

β€’ Why do you want a platform or recognition?

β€’ Why do you want to be seen, celebrated, or acknowledged?

These aren’t questions meant to make you feel judged or guilty. Instead, they’re meant to help you dig deeper. Because if your β€œwhy” isn’t rooted in something meaningful, sustainable, and pure, it may not lead to the fulfillment you’re looking for.

You Can Talk to God About Your Intentions

Did you know that your intentions are something you can pray about? Just like you take every need, worry, or plan to God, you can also ask Him to guide your heart.

Here’s what you can pray for:

β€’ Clarity: β€œLord, why do I desire this so much? Please reveal if my motives are pure.”

β€’ Correction: β€œIf my intentions are misplaced, show me how to realign them with Your will.”

β€’ Courage: β€œHelp me let go of any desires that aren’t pleasing to You.”

God knows how easily we can get carried away by the excitement of dreams or the pressure to meet certain standards. But He’s also ready to gently nudge us back on track when our intentions stray.

    When Intentions Go Astray

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you didn’t stop to think about why you wanted it? Maybe it was a career move, a relationship, or even a personal goal. But over time, you realized that your motivation wasn’t quite right.

    For example:

β€’ Are you pursuing success just to prove someone wrong?

β€’ Are you seeking recognition to feel validated?

β€’ Are you helping others so they’ll praise you?

It’s funny how these might seem harmless on the surface, but intentions like these can weigh us down, delay progress, or even rob us of joy.

When our motivations are misaligned, the process feels harder, and the results may not bring the satisfaction we expected. That’s why it’s essential to pause and reassess.

    Intentions Shape the Outcome

What you do is important, but why you do it holds just as much weight. Whether it’s a personal project, a career decision, or a relationship, intentions often shape the outcome.

Take a moment to ask yourself:

β€’ Am I seeking to glorify God or just myself?

β€’ Am I driven by love or comparison?

β€’ Am I motivated by faith or fear?

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about staying aware and intentional.

Pray with me: β€œLord, help me examine my heart and realign my motives with Your will. Purify my intentions and keep me focused on what truly matters. May my desires glorify You and bless others. Amen.”

    Dear Growing Christian,
As we navigate life, let’s commit to taking our intentions seriously. Remember, God cares not just about what we do but also why we do it. And the beauty of walking with Him is that we don’t have to figure it out alone.

He’s always there to guide, correct, and encourage us to live with purpose and clarity.

So, why do you do the things you do? Take a moment to reflect, pray, and align your intentions with something greater than yourself.
