Intermittent fasting (also known as IF or time-restricted eating) has the potential benefits of weight management, improved metabolic health, and enhanced longevity. Prayer to Prepare for a Time of Fasting and Prayer

Heavenly Father, I humbly come before you and consecrate this time of fasting to you. I commit to fast from _______ (what you are fasting from) for _______ (length of time).

I lay all my fears and anxieties at your feet, trusting you to sustain me throughout my fast. I will live by the Word of God and declare that your unfailing love is priceless, and I take refuge in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 36:7).

Are we truly hungry? Are we eating out of boredom, anxiety, and cravings—or do we choose food to nourish our bodies?

A Prayer When Hungry

Lord, when I am hungry, I will turn to you. I realize that these hunger pangs are temporary, but you have the spiritual food I truly need. As I feel the pangs of hunger, let them be a reminder of the hunger I should have for Your Word, Your presence, and Your will in my life. Fill me, Lord, with the sustenance that comes from Your truth, grace, and love.

As your Word says in John 6:27, I don't work for food that perishes but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give me. I don't live by bread alone, but every Word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

I recognize that the satisfaction I get from even the tastiest foods only lasts for a moment. As I fast, I declare that the joy of heaven far outweighs the temporary pleasure of earthly treats. I am not subject to the cravings of my flesh because I walk in the power of God's Spirit.

Because of God's mercy, I am not overcome by any temptation. The devil is the father of lies (John 8:44), but I walk in the truth and the light! (2 John 1:4) Because of the finished work of the cross, I have life in Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord, as I feel the physical challenges of fasting, I am reminded that Your grace is sufficient for me because Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). I'm reminded to persevere through moments of hunger and challenge because I depend on your strength and power.

Fasting is powerful because it causes me to recognize my weaknesses, choose to be humble, and become more dependent on you. Lord, I surrender my pride and confidence in my own willpower. Instead, I trust that your grace is sufficient for me!

Freedom and Healing Through Fasting

Spend some time with this prayer to allow the Lord to highlight any areas of sin in your life, or areas where you need healing.

Lord, John 8:36 says that "if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." I want this freedom in my life! I pray for heavenly wisdom to discern anything that may be holding me back; whether it's my own choices, an attack of the enemy, or unforgiveness and bitterness in my heart.

I examine my heart and confess my personal sins. I repent, Lord, and turn to you for healing, closing every door, and healing every wound the enemy might try to use to his advantage. I forgive anyone who has wronged me, knowing that you have forgiven me of all my sins.

I declare Romans 12:21 over my life, that I will not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. My righteousness is in Christ. Thank you, Father, for the perfect gift of your Son Jesus Christ, who took away the sin of the world.

I am free because of who I am in Christ. I am a new creation. The old has passed away, and the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Lord, I long to know your will for my life; to understand my identity and purpose. I want to walk according to your ways and be led by your Truth.

Isaiah 30:21 says, "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'" Help me to hear this voice clearly.

I am specifically asking for revelation in these areas ________.

I recognize that sometimes you call me to wait and other times to go. Sometimes, to be silent and pray, and other times, to speak boldly. I pray for direction and peace. I recognize that I walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Help me increase my faith (Luke 17:5). In Jesus' name, amen.

A Prayer for Holy Spirit Guidance

Jesus, you said the Father would send us the Holy Spirit as our counselor, Advocate, and spirit of truth who would teach us all things. I want to be more sensitive to the Spirit's leading and understand this third person of the Trinity more intimately.

I pray that all these individuals would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and they would be personally blessed because they know You. Lord, give all our leaders godly wisdom and discernment. Let your will be done on earth as it is heaven, according to your kingdom principles of justice and righteousness.

Fasting for Financial Provision

Gracious Father, I acknowledge Your sovereignty over every aspect of my life, including my finances. I claim this promise for myself and for those who are facing financial challenges: my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)

I pray over anyone in debt, poverty, or lacking employment. I pray for Your divine intervention in their lives that You may open doors of opportunity, bring the right job opportunity, and grant them the means to meet their basic needs with divine wisdom and strategy.

I pray for my local church community and lift up our church leaders, both local and those overseeing other church bodies. Grant them Your wisdom, discernment, and strength to lead with grace, truth, and love.

Lord, as part of this body of believers, I desire unity within our local church and across the entire body of Christ.
