A Daily Devotion for Sobriety: Seeking guidance for the day

Psalm 119:105. (Bible verse image from Bible Portal)

As dawn breaks, the sun's rays sweep the horizon. It heralds a fresh start. For those journeying towards sobriety, each sunrise symbolizes a chance for renewal, untainted by past struggles. Yet, forging ahead demands clear vision and determination, even with sunlight illuminating the way. Let us unite today in seeking guidance and purpose as we navigate uncharted paths toward a brighter tomorrow.

Reflection

Indulge in a moment of tranquility; inhale deeply. Reflect on the resilience that brought you here. Recall the obstacles conquered, the support embraced, and the unyielding optimism propelling your path. Embrace the spectrum of feelings—gratefulness for the promising horizons or apprehension of what lies ahead. Let these emotions weave into the fabric of your guidance, enriching your recovery.

Setting your intentions

What are your plans for this day? Do you seek calmness amidst life's chaos and busyness? Or courage to face a difficult conversation? Maybe you yearn for the strength to make healthy choices throughout the day. Whatever your intention may be, hold it close, whispering it to your heart as you open your eyes.

Guidance from within

Now, consider the tools at your disposal. It may be the wisdom gleaned from therapy sessions. It could be the unwavering support of your sponsor or recovery group or the quiet strength found in meditation or prayer. Reach out to these sources of guidance, internal or external, and allow their wisdom to fill you.

A script for support

Sometimes, even with the best intentions and support systems, cravings or moments of doubt can creep in. In these times, having a script prepared can be your lifeline. It could be a mantra like "One day at a time," a phone number to a trusted friend, or a visualization of your future self, healthy and thriving. Whatever your script may be, rehearse it now so it's readily available when needed.

Gratitude and forgiveness

As the day unfolds, remember to practice gratitude. Be thankful for the small victories – a resisted temptation, a healthy meal enjoyed, a moment of genuine connection. Gratitude strengthens our resolve and reminds us of the progress we've made. And if stumbles occur, forgive yourself. Recovery is not a linear journey; setbacks are simply opportunities to learn and grow.

Jesus Christ: The Light of the World

You are not alone on this path. The presence of Christ illuminates our paths. His holy presence wards off evil and brings us comfort. There is also a community of individuals journeying alongside you, cheering you on in seeking guidance, and offering unwavering support. Lean on them, reach out when needed, and remember the strength you hold within. With each sunrise, you can choose sobriety, one mindful breath at a time.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I lay my burdens before you as dawn cracks open the sky. My addiction, a heavy cloak, weighs on my heart and clouds my path. Today, I yearn for freedom, for the strength to walk a sober road.

Guide me, Lord, with your steady hand. Please show me the clear path, away from temptation's whispers. Please grant me the courage to face cravings with unwavering faith, to replace despair with hope's gentle light.

Fill my spirit with the wisdom of recovery, the solace of your love. Surround me with your angels, the voices of support, whispers of encouragement.

Let this day be a testament to your grace, a victory fought, not alone but hand-in-hand with you. Amen.
