A God Beyond Compare
– Genesis 1:26
One of the most astounding assignments of our life on earth is to know God in His eternal fullness and infinite power. However, many of us have a preconceived idea of God that has been manufactured by life disappointments, strict religion or weak theology. If your desire is to live fully and abundantly, then the intent of your heart must be to intimately know the God of the Bible.
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. ... We tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God.” – A. W. Tozer
Your view of God determines nearly every other area of your life. Knowing who God is impacts your prayer life, the choices you make and the words that you speak. Your perception of the power of God will determine what you do with your one glorious life.
One of the ways that you can intentionally know a person is by knowing his or her name. No single name can describe the matchless power of God, but every one of His names reveals a different and exciting aspect of His character. Let’s look at one of God’s amazing names – Elohim.
“In the beginning, God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
In the beginning was only God and everything else was created due to the active power of God. Giraffes, diamonds, deserts, hyenas, babies and daffodils are all the representation of what the power of Elohim could accomplish.
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our Image, according to Our likeness …” – Genesis 1:26
Who is the “we” or the “us” in the only God? The “us” in God is the Trinity – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
From the very first recorded words of God in the Bible, we can understand that He is more than we ever thought He could be. He is more than enough. He more than able. He is more than sufficient. There is so much more to God than our human minds can comprehend. Although He is one God, His nature is more than singular.
The very first lesson we learn about the God of the Bible is that He is more than enough and that He is a Creator. The God who creates is also able to redeem, to restore, to reconcile, to heal, to provide and to comfort. His power is more than magnificent and everything that exists in our world was the act of a sovereign, loving, creative God. His power made everything that is – including you! You are the representation of God’s power toward mankind.
If you believe this with not head knowledge but heart knowledge, it will give you faith for your marriage, for your finances and for your health. His power is more than enough to accomplish what concerns you today.
Questions for Reflection:
1. Write out three adjectives to describe who you believe God to be.
2. What is the one prayer request you have for the God of all power today?
