Christ is Our Nourishment, Now and New Jerusalem
Jesus Christ the Lamb of God is the lamp of New Jerusalem in Revelation 21:23. His work produces the pearls in 21:21, and He is the tree of life producing nourishing fruit in 22:2.
The lamp refers to the Son’s person, the pearls refer to His work of death and resurrection, and the tree refers to His nourishment. He is not only making you into a pearl through His work of death and resurrection, but He is also the tree of life (Rev. 22:2) to nourish you with all His unsearchable riches. The twelve fruits of the tree of life yielded each month from the divine tree are for your nourishment.*
Throughout the Bible spiritual nourishment is important. In the New Testament the word of God is likened to bread in Matthew 4:4, John 6 has much about the bread of life, 1 Corinthians 3 and Hebrews 5 refer to both milk (for babes in Christ) and solid food (for the mature), and 1 Peter 2:2-3 also has spiritual milk. We need this nourishment to grow in our Christian life.
Christ is the tree of life for us today and for us in New Jerusalem. Then we will all be mature and will be living members of this glorious city. The fruit of the tree of life in New Jerusalem, with the water of life, will sustain us in the best way for eternity.
