Crossmap Podcast: Skillet's John Cooper on What It Means to Be 'Wimpy, Weak, and Woke'
ORLANDO -- John Cooper has spent the last 25 plus years touring the world as the lead singer of the 17-time platinum selling rock band Skillet. During that time, fans have been treated to a variety of hard-hitting, nail-biting songs, with each one delivering a foundational truth pointing to God’s love.
While their live shows consistently deliver hair-raising, pyrotechnic-fueled entertainment, the band consistently sets itself apart from all the others for their unabashedly unapologetic willingness to stand for theological truth.
“There's this great scripture in the Old Testament, which says that basically everywhere you go, you talk about the law,” Cooper shares, who co-founded Skillet 27 years ago. “When you're walking down the street, you talk about the law. When you're at the table, you talk about God's law. Everywhere you go is another example of talking about God's order. And the creator behind all of this, all of his designs are amazing.”
In his latest book, Wimpy, Weak, and Woke, Cooper provides readers with a critical and timely message on today’s cultural climate that rings true as a voice crying out in the wilderness. In fact, actor and television host Kirk Cameron says of Cooper, “He is made for this kind of work - smashing idols and building authors.”
“In the book, it's not just me being mad the whole time,” Cooper explains. “I'm trying to present a positive direction. What's the positive direction? We've built a pretty prosperous nation. We've built a pretty free nation where people from all over the planet, regardless of your skin color, your gender, your religious beliefs, your class can come and thrive built on Christian civilization. It is almost like conservatism, a return to traditional shared religious and moral values, that sort of thing. In other words, it's tried and true.”
Cooper joins us on the Crossmap Podcast to talk about the cultural issues that he sees as the most detrimental to our society as a whole. Listen as he shares how the West was built on the belief in objective truth, objective reality, and absolutes, all of which are being destroyed as we speak.
