Day 21: Mindset Matters (Bible Tribe Romans 6–8) - Denise Pass

Good morning, friends! Day Twenty-One! Mindset Matters. Guard your thoughts well, friend. What we think on becomes our mindset. And our mindset runs our lives.

Bible Reading: Romans 6-8

Verse of the day: Romans 8:6, “For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace.”

Word of the day: Mindset. It is the Greek word: φρόνημα (fron’-ay-mah).

This word means: “inner part,” “mind,” “consciousness,” “understanding”; “thought,” also “disposition,” and listen to this: “it is the agent of spiritual and intellectual experiences.” Your mindset determines how you walk with God. Fron-ay-mah is an arrogance and a mind that rejects God; presumptuous thinking

Christ’s Redeems Our Mindset

Paul is laying a beautiful portrayal of the Spirit-filled life revealing the effect that our mindset has on our faith and walk with God. The mindset of flesh is to be carnally minded, thinking about things from our own perspective. Christ came to redeem our mindsets and our lives. We don’t have to reside in a mindset of flesh even though we are encased in flesh.

Make Up Your Mind

Phronema is one of my favorite words this year, in particular because I have a book coming out this year called, “Make Up Your Mind” Unlock Your Thoughts and Transform Your Life”, and mindsets are what God has me writing about in my dissertation, as well. But this word is so significant as I see so many people giving in to the negative thoughts pumping through their brains. They miss the grace of God and the mind of Christ, which Paul says we have in 1 Corinthians 2:16, and then tells us to have this mind in Philippians 2:5. It is a choice to walk in the Spirit or the flesh. The mind of Christ is impossible to attain in the flesh, but in the Spirit, God can accomplish what man cannot as we yield our will to God’s.

Mindset matters. Frank Outlaw’s statement, “Watch your thoughts. They become words. Watch your words. They become deeds. Watch your deeds. They become habits. Watch your habits. They become character. Character is everything,” reveals the cause and effect of our mindset.

Application

Don’t let your thoughts run you. Pay attention to them and wash them with the word of God. Find Scriptures to combat negative mindsets.

Watch your behavior but watch your thoughts first. Don’t let unkind thoughts about others escape your mind or your lips.

Peter’s admonition reminds us that our mindset is our choice. 1 Peter 1:13 ESV, “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
