At the Edge of Faith
Encountering God in strange places surprises me, but never have I been more surprised than when encountering Him at the edge of my faith.

It’s nearly the merry month of May … and the sun is shining almost daily now. “Spring is God’s way of saying, “One more time!” – Robert Orben The frigid clouds of winter have finally started to disappear and have made way for the glorious billows of spring. The thermometer is about to go above 6

First Timothy 3:16 begins, “great is the mystery of godliness: He who was manifested in the flesh.” Without doubt, He refers to Christ Jesus. He is God and He became a man of flesh. Joh…
The writers of the New Testament books considered that Jesus' return could happen anytime. Therefore, James' epistle emphasized our need to draw close to God.

My walk with Christ is centered on two seemingly opposing statements. Jesus came to give us abundant life (John 10:10) Jesus calls us to die (Luke 9:23). The American church gives a lot of time and…
Last week I was reading through John 8:31-59 and the word ‘word’ jumped out at me. It’s repeated 7 times in the passage. Jesus is speaking to some Jews who believe in Him and He s…
For as long as humanity has left its imprint on planet earth, in clay and in stone, in monuments as well as in writing, music, and in art, we have tried to defeat death. But so far, it would appear that death has won. In all likelihood, unless you are a very significant figure, within a very few generations you will be entirely forgotten. Depressing, isn’t it? So, let’s lighten the tone!
The Jews had set many religious rules about how to live. Some of them required them to fast – to not eat for long periods of time. But Jesus and his disciples didn’t seem to follow these rules. The religious leaders thought that Jesus’ followers should fast and be miserable together with them, so they came and asked him about it. The people were shocked that Jesus and his disciples were clearly having a good time eating and drinking. The religious leaders taught that if you were properly religious, you shouldn’t enjoy life at all. Instead, you had to go around fasting and being solemn and serious all the time. But Jesus uses the example of new wine, which was basically unfermented grape juice. He says, you don’t put fresh grape juice into an old wineskin, in which the previous wine had fermented, because obviously, the wineskin would burst.

Have you ever noticed how backwards Jesus’ way of doing life is compared to how most of our cultures and worldviews communicate it should be? The first shall be last. The foolish will confound the wise. Weakness is required for strength. I love how when Jesus walked the earth, He did everything in

It’s common to talk about having a “personal relationship with Jesus.” Certainly, a good term but that phrase never appears in Scripture. The most common word to describe the Christian life is “wal…
In the book of Mark, everything about the life of Jesus is powerful and quick. For example, you see that everything happens “straight away” or “at once.” Jesus was just been dramatically baptised by John the Baptist and now He is being sent out. One moment, Jesus is being baptised, hearing the voice of the Father affirming that He is His beloved Son. The next moment, Marks says, “at once” the Spirit sends him out into the wilderness. These two ideas don’t seem to go together. Similarly, Mark tells us that while Jesus was in the wilderness, he was with the wild animals and with the angels.
We’re not even two weeks deep into 2024, but I’m guessing many of you have already broken one or two of your New Yeart’s resolutions. If you have, there’s no reason to beat yourself up. (A good res…
