Walking In Wisdom

Good Morning! Welcome to Day Fifty-Six! The quest for wisdom has been around since the Garden of Eden. Seeking worldly knowledge cannot satisfy this hunger. But Christ can. Seeking worldly knowledge cannot satisfy this hunger. But Christ can help us walk in light if we humbly seek after Him.

 Bible Reading: I Corinthians 1-2

Verse of the day: 1 Corinthians 1:24, “But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

Word of the day: Wisdom. It is the Greek word: σοφία (sof-ee’-ah).

This word means: Full of intelligence

The BDAG Lexicon says that wisdom is “the capacity to understand and function accordingly, wisdom.”

Wisdom In The Word

Paul wrote a letter to the Christians in Corinth from the city of Ephesus (Acts 19), Paul had received reports from people in Chloe’s household about disturbances in Corinth (1 Corinthians 1:11); and he may have received a delegation from Corinth (1 Corinthians 16:7) who brought him questions from the congregation (1 Corinthians 7:1).

The Enduring Word commentary summarized the reality of the message we carry.

How Others Viewed Jesus

“The Jews regarded Christ crucified as a stumbling block; perhaps this is better understood as an offense or a scandal. The Greeks regarded Christ crucified as foolishness. But God did not respond to the polling data. He kept to His gospel, because for those who believed it (both Jews and Greeks), Christ crucified is the power of God.”

The Theological Dictionary of the NT says this: “In the early period a man was wise who was fully and pre-eminently experienced and adept in a specific skill.”

But through the ages, wisdom based on man’s ability still points back to our Creator. However, it all comes from God alone.

Lean Into His Word

Jesus is our wisdom.

1 Corinthians 1:30, “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.”

1 Corinthians 1:24, “But to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

Colossians 2:3, “In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

 Application

  • When we lack anything, we just have to ask God. As it says in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault.”
  • We who have been given wisdom also have grace to walk in it.
