Memorise: “Wherefore, my beloved, brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” ( Jas 1:19)

Read: James 1:19-21

Just like king Ahasuerus did not respond to Queen Esther’s report on Haman, the King of kings could be silent. Whenever God is silent, you need to find out why. Every genuinely born again Christian should regularly hear from God. He is your Father and you are His sheep. If you have not heard from God for a long time, don’t waive it off. It could be very dangerous. There are some possible reasons God may be silent. It may be that there is nothing to say because God is not a talkative.

Pin on it's all about Him

“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God” ( Ps 62:11). Although God speaks, He does not speak just for the fun of it. Every word that proceeds from God has a purpose. He does not waste words. Every Word of God is well thought out before being released. Of all the prophetic books, the Book of Prophet Isaiah is the largest. Yet this volume was a compilation of all God spoke to him during his life time.

Hence, like our Father, believers must learn to be quiet. Do not speak until there is need for it. Like God, engage in word management. Before you speak, think. Process your thoughts and words before releasing them. This helps to sieve edifying from unedifying words. If you speak words of wisdom each time you open your mouth, it will increase your value and how you are regarded. If you talk before thinking, many foolish words will come out and reduce your rating in value.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” ( Jas 1:19). The rule is, be quick at receiving words, retain them, but release them with great caution. Keep your mouth shut. If you shut up for long, it will help you to meditate on God’s Word, or to pray more and build up the anointing.

But if you open your mouth, you will become empty, even of the anointing. Then you will get into trouble either with God or man. The wider you open your mouth to comment on virtually every subject matter, the more problems you will get into. Start by trimming your words by half. It is said the average person speaks 50,000 words daily. Cut this by 50%. You will notice a great difference in your life after three months.

In the next one month, downsize your words by 50% and use the time saved to pray, evangelize and study the Bible. Evaluate the effects afterwards.
