Entrusted with the Gospel
He answered, “Then I beg you father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have 5 brothers. Let him warn them so that they will not also come to this place of torment.”
Luke 16:27-28
In this life, a man’s greatest passion and concern is for his family. This holds true for a man finding himself in torment of hell after his death. He begs one from heaven be sent to the earth, to convince his brothers to repent. But there are rules in the afterlife. Men from heaven are not coming back to testify. Angels are neither called to this assignment.
How can the lost hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? Who then will bring the message? The voices will come from the earth. We who once lived gratifying our fleshly desires and thoughts are appointed the task. Being shown great mercy, the love of Christ compels us to speak.
We are approved by God and entrusted with the gospel. What an honor the King bestows on His former enemies. We now persuade men, not with human words, but with His word, preaching repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.
We will face opposition to the truth. Evil spirits posing as men back from the dead, telling lies. The devil deceives men, desiring to bring them down to the destruction he knows awaits him.
Men of the earth, fellow pilgrims, we are His ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us, imploring men to be reconciled to God. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!
