God’s Life for God’s Building
Recent posts are on New Jerusalem as the completion of God’s New Testament building and our mutual indwelling–Christ in us and we in Christ. From this, a hymn by Witness Lee rose up in me which I share here. The words and music are here.
The hymn begins with these two lines, reminding me of Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.” He lives in us with the goal to be all our life and all our living. This is for God’s building. The hymn begins:
—Thou art all my life, Lord, / In me Thou dost live.
Verse 3 touches the Spirit’s spreading within us, using the words permeation, saturation, transformation, and conformation. We need so much soaking with the Spirit to bring us to maturity in life and to build us together.
—Thy anointing Spirit / Me shall permeate,
——All my soul and spirit / Thou wouldst saturate;
—Every part transforming / Till conformed to Thee,
——Till Thy life shall bring me / To maturity.
Verses five and six each begin with consecration for the Spirit’s work and for our building together.
—I would give myself, Lord, / Fully unto Thee,
——That Thy heart’s desire / Be fulfilled in me.
—I would cease completely / From my efforts vain,
——Let Thy life transform me, / Full release to gain.
Verse 6 concludes with the longing for building up in life for God’s full expression, which New Jerusalem will manifest eternally.
—Build me up with others/ Till in us Thou see
——Thy complete expression/ Glorifying Thee.
Lord, grow in us and build us together into New Jerusalem for Your complete expression!
