Has God Failed You?

It makes me feel a little ashamed to admit that only a few months ago I could not honestly say, without a doubt, that God would not fail me.

There is one very concerning and painful area of my life that has not only caused sleepless nights, it has caused me to doubt God’s faithfulness. Because I do not know what the final outcome of this situation will be, I find myself wanting to say, “If the outcome is not good, certainly God will have failed me.”

But you know what, sisters? This is yet another BIG LIE from the enemy. Remember what the serpent said to Eve way back in the Garden of Eden? He asked a question that instantly planted a seed of doubt in her perfectly created heart.

“Did God really say?”

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

Sisters, just like Eve, we are given whispers of doubt about God’s goodness. And the enemy knows our vulnerabilities. He knows what worries us most. He knows just what to do to make us think that God has failed or will fail us.

After all, he whispers things like…

Will God really save your marriage?

Will God really save your children?

Will God really come through for you financially?

Will God really provide a job?

Will God really heal you?

And just like Eve, we start to feel a bit muddled, wondering if we heard God right, wondering if His word really can be trusted. We may begin to believe that God can and will fail us.

Thoughts like these might begin to fill our minds as we retain Satan’s lies…

I wasn’t able to pay the medical bill last month, so God can’t be trusted to be my Provider.

One of my kids is not walking with the Lord, so God must not care about his salvation.

My marriage is falling apart, so God must not love me very much.

My illness is getting worse, so God must not be the Healer He claims to be.

These are blatant statements that fly against the very truths that make up our faith, yet we hold on to the subtle lies that the adversary whispers.

Instead, we should cling to the absolute truths about our God…

In God, there is no darkness at all.

He is love.

He is light.

His ways are perfect.

He is faithful.

His love never fails.

Today’s challenge:

Find at least one Bible verse for each of the true statements above. Then, circle the characteristic of God you struggle with most.

Is it His love that causes you to doubt?

Are you unsure about His faithfulness?

Do you find yourself questioning His perfection?

Be honest with yourself and honest with God. Just as I had to bring my deepest concerns to Him and admit that I was worried He would fail me, I encourage you to pour out your doubts and fears to Him as well.

If you feel like God has already failed you, please re-read the statements above and take to heart the Scriptures you find. Memorize them. Share them. Believe them. Remember, sisters, our feelings betray us, but God does not.

Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.

Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.

My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:23-26

With you in heart and in prayer today,

Jennifer
