How can we receive God's help in challenging times? 4 simple steps - Connecting Truth to Life

In life-threatening circumstances, to whom can we look for help? Most people frantically search for someone reliable—perhaps a family member or friend. If they are desperate enough, they may look for anyone willing to help, even for a price. How we can receive God’s help in challenging times; 4 simple steps.

Step 1. We can receive God’s help by Realizing and admitting our mistakes

In the Bible, King Hezekiah of the nation of Judah is counting on an alliance with Egypt, Philistia, and Phoenicia to defeat the Assyrians, who smash every kingdom in its path. This is a mistake, for they are ungodly and unreliable. The alliance doesn’t help Hezekiah. All of Judah’s fortified cities are smashed by the Assyrians except Jerusalem, the capital city.

Step 2: We can Turn to the LORD for his Help

Hezekiah makes preparations for an upcoming siege. That is his responsibility. However, sometimes our efforts are not enough; we need supernaturalhelp. Hezekiah calls on his God, the one true Sovereign of the universe.

Step 3: Keep Trusting in the LORD. He will Deliver or Help you through it.

In contrast to Hezekiah’s confidence in God, Sennacherib is confident in his own abilities. He is arrogant and has a misconception of Israel’s God. To him, Judah’s god is no more powerful than those of other nations he has conquered. Israel’s god had not saved the northern kingdom from his destructive hand or any other fortified cities of Judah. Why should he deliver Jerusalem?

Who or what is causing us severe anxiety? Remember, if we are living a righteous life, The LORD is on our side.  One plus God is a mighty majority.

Step 4: Seek his Glory

How can we know we will get God’s help? We must seek His glory. The LORD is delighted to answer those seeking to please Him.

In one night, the angel of the LORD destroys 185,000 Assyrians as they sleep. Humiliated, Sennacherib returns home. Later, Sennacherib’s sons assassinate him. Through this victory, God gets the glory. Now, who is more powerful than the LORD Almighty? Will we trust him?
