How Robert Breaker deliberately cherry picked Dr. Ruckman: The Alton Story

Robert Breaker caught purposely misquoting Dr. Ruckman...

Card 1: On December 13th, 2023, Robert Breaker uploaded a video titled “Is the Blood of Jesus Enough? Peter Ruckman salvation bloodofchrist faithintheblood.” The description read: “Peter Ruckman asks if faith in the Blood of Jesus is enough to be saved.”

Card 2: What Breaker did not show you was the full context. The clip is about a dying man named Alton who was being targeted by Campbellites.

Card 3: In the full story, Dr. Ruckman gives Alton a tract and leaves. When he returns, Alton’s sister tells him: “Ruckman, after you left, he dropped out of bed against orders and knelt on the floor, praying over the tract.”

Card 4: Dr. Ruckman then goes to Alton and asks if he trusted in the blood of Jesus Christ to save him. Alton confirms he did. Alton’s sister then asks if that is enough, at which point Dr. Ruckman rebukes her for her doubt.

Card 5: Robert Breaker edited this clip to show only Dr. Ruckman questioning the man and rebuking the sister, completely cutting out the fact that the man had just prayed a sinner’s prayer. Which Breaker considers a work.

We know he prayed a sinner's prayer because Dr. Peter S. Ruckman told him to read the tract and call upon the name of the Lord for salvation.

" And uh I went went there and his sister was there talking to him. And she said ‘I’ll go down to get some coffee Brother Ruckman if you’ll talk to my brother here.’ So I talked to Alton Nelson. And he was uh wasn’t uh aggressive and proud he was polite he listened very carefully. Didn’t make any decision, but he listened carefully, real carefully. And I gave him a tract. And I started to leave and I said ‘Now all you have to do is read this and if you’re saved, whoever call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. You know you’re a sinner, and you know you’re gonna go to hell if you die, let let me show you how to get saved if you want to. Try it you ought to try it.’ And I left."

Card 6: What does Robert Breaker believe?

[00:51 01:40] Robert Breaker

Video dated November 6, 2025

“Is to confess with their mouth that the Lord is Jesus or Jesus is Lord. Wouldn’t that be Israel? So what I read Romans 10, I see Jews asking Paul, ‘Hey, what about Israel?’ And he says, ‘Well, if a guy is a Jew and he has confessed that Jesus is his Lord, that Jesus is his Messiah, and if he believes that God hath raised him from the dead, well then he can be saved.’ So if he believes in who and what, then he’ll be saved. I don’t think he’s telling you you have to do both and that you have to say with the mouth or you’re not saved. If he’s saying you have to believe from your heart in something and say it with your mouth at the same time, then that would be a faith plus works gospel. And that would nullify what Jesus did because it’s not just what he did, it’s what you say, which would be a work.”

Card 7: Today, I will prove that Breaker took this story out of context. I will show you exactly what Alton did by using the full account from Dr. Ruckman’s sermon on Romans 8:28, which he preached in 1989, 1992, and 2002.

[02:31 07:08] Dr. S. Peter Ruckman

Video dated 1989

“You know, years ago I got a telephone call one night, must have been about... oh about one o’clock in the morning. Saturday night. That’s when the preacher always love to get them, boy, Saturday night about 1 or 2 in the morning. And said, ‘Would you come down the hospital and deal with my brother, he’s dying.’ His name was Alton Nelson. And I said, ‘Well, it’s pretty late.’ She said, ‘Well, brother, let me just... you just got to come down.’ I said, ‘He’s a Campbellite, isn’t he?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Is the Church of Christ preacher down there right now?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘I don’t think it’d do any good for me to come down there, a Baptist come down there and start a fight in the hospital when somebody’s dying.’ I said maybe... but she said, ‘Brother Ruckman,’ she said, ‘You just got to deal with him, please come on down.’ So I finally said, ‘Okay, I’ll come down.’

And this fella Alton Nelson was a fella I’d dealt with about 3 years ago in the hospital. And when I dealt with him in the hospital, he was... had this uh Bright’s disease. And calcium couldn’t get the bone, he was collapsing, you know. He’d get a transfusion about once a year. Then he get a transfusion every six months. And then he get a transfusion every two months. Then he get a transfusion every month. And now down to a week and a day and there he was dying. And when I’d gone to talk to him, he was very open. He was a Campbellite, Church of Christ, but he’d listen. He wasn’t a smart aleck. I left him a tract.

I left him a tract, when I left him a tract I said, ‘Would you read this when you get time?’ And he said, ‘Yes, I will.’ So I was content, went on my way and didn’t hear anything about it again. And this is the first time I heard anything about it since uh that time.

His sister was phoning up down the hospital. And she said, ‘Will you come down and deal with him?’ So I got in the car and I drove down there, I think I saw about two stoplights out of six driving down. And I got down there and got on the fourth floor of the hospital and here was all the family round there and he was dying. And I can hear... hear the Campbellite preacher back there in the back room praying. And saying, ‘Oh God, please help us to so live and keep your commandments that you may reward us with eternal life.’ Out there in that hallway, I just about to cuss, leaning up against that hall thinking to myself, ‘You you you jackass you. Tell him how to get saved. Tell that poor devil how to get saved, you fool you,’ you know. And after a while he came out. About the time he came out his sister came to the door and said, ‘Come in, come in here.’

And I ran back in there. Got back in there, the old Alton was lying there all jacked up like a wrecked automobile. And had tubes in his mouth and everything and he was trying to pull the tube out and the nurse was trying to hold it in and a whole lot of mess.

And his sister said... ‘Brother Ruckman,’ she said, ‘There’s something I forgot to tell you about.’ She said, ‘Do you remember that day that you came here and witnessed to him?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And she said, ‘You left him a tract, didn’t you?’ I said, ‘Yes, I did.’ She said, ‘Well, Brother Ruckman, there’s something I forgot to tell you. She said, I was down in the coffee shop when you were up here and when I came back up,’ she said, ‘He was out of his bed against orders and kneeling on the floor and kneeling over that tract.’

[Onscreen text, 05:00 to 05:03: Why kneel + pray if it’s not a sinner’s prayer which is a work to Breaker.]

And she said, ‘You know, ever since then he’s been so different.’ So I went up there and I got my mouth right down next to his ear. I said, ‘Alton, can you hear me?’ That dying man nodded his head. And I said, ‘Alton,’ I said, ‘I want to ask you just one question.’ I said, ‘Did you read the tract I gave you that day?’ Nodded his head. I said, ‘Are you trusting the blood of Jesus Christ to save you right now?’ Nodded his head.

[Onscreen text, 05:32 to 05:36: Notice this. Alton did a sinner’s prayer and then that is how he accesses the blood of Jesus Christ.]

I said, ‘Are you trusting that and nothing else?’ And he goes... And I said, ‘Praise the Lord, man.’ And had prayer with him and got up. When I got up, I started out the door and about that time his sister came to me and grabbed me by the arm and she said, ‘Oh, Brother Ruckman,’ she said, ‘Do you think that’s enough?’ And I said, ‘Enough?’ I said, ‘Lady, if the blood of Christ can’t save a sinner, everybody in this building going to hell so fast you can’t even see them. What do you mean enough? What else can you do?’

And I went on home that night, got to bed and got up the next morning about eight, shaved, and came down felt like I’d been had a... an all night hangover, had a... been all night drunk or something. I came up there and looked in the mirror and started to shave. And about the time I began to look in the mirror I began to get the... get the joy bells ringing in my heart and I almost did a little jig right there in front of the mirror, you know, while I was shaving.

And somebody said, ‘Well, what was going through your mind?’ Well, I just looked in that mirror and the thought suddenly struck me: You know something? That old Campbellite preacher is going to hell, just like Judas Iscariot, he ain’t going to burn forever. And his damnation is my blessing. You say, why? Because I saw what he had didn’t work, and what I had worked. You know what that is to me?

That’s a blessing. All right, I ain’t worry about what I believe. Anybody right here want drop dead in 5 seconds, I can tell you exactly what to do. And it ain’t a work. I’ve seen it work.”

[07:14 11:12] Dr. S. Peter Ruckman

Video dated 1992

“Many years ago down there in Pensacola, Florida, I dealt with a Campbellite. I don’t know if you know what a Campbellite is or not, that’s Church of Christ. We call them water dogs down there. Of those born of water, three are born outright: a mosquito, a tadpole, and a Campbellite. Anyway, I went in this hospital dealing with this fellow about his soul. And he was uh... he was open to the gospel, he listened. But he didn’t make any response, but he listened to me, you know. And he had what they call Bright’s disease. And you have to give that fellow, you know, a transfusion about once a year. And then once every six months, and then once every month, and then once every week, and then once every day, and then once every day, and then he’s dead, you know. Yeah. Did you ever notice how many... most of those diseases are blood diseases? I grant you something can go wrong with the fellow, but Bright’s disease is blood. And Hodgkin’s disease is blood. And phlebitis is blood. And coronaries are blood. And blood clots are blood. And the life of the flesh is in the blood.

Anyway, he had it and I talked with him a while and I finally said, ‘Well, would you read a tract if I left it with you?’ He said yes. So I left a tract with him and went on down. And... and the person that asked me to talk with him was his sister. And when I came in the door to deal with him, his sister went out, went down to the coffee shop and got some coffee and let me deal with him. And after I left she came back. That’s the last I ever heard of it. Never heard about it nothing for about two years.

And after about two years, I got a call one night, Saturday night, at about uh 11 o’clock. And nothing a pastor likes any better than an emergency call Saturday night at 11 o’clock. And 11 o’clock his sister phoned up and said, ‘Brother Ruckman, he’s dying.’ I said, ‘Who?’ Said, ‘Alton Nelson’. By that I’d forgot it. And I said, ‘I forgot who that is.’ She said, ‘Well I’m so and so and remember one time I called you to the hospital to deal with him and you left him a tract?’ I said uh, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘Well, he’s dying. Could you come down to the hospital?’ I said, ‘Is this preacher down there?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, he’s down here.’ And I said, ‘Well I don’t want to go down there and get in an argument with a Campbellite at 12 o’clock at night.’ I said, ‘The preacher and the family’s down there you better just let it go.’ ‘Oh Brother Ruckman, you just... you just got to come down, please come down.’ And I said, ‘Alright’.

So I threw on my clothes about 12 o’clock at night and started down there that uh hospital. I think I saw about three stoplights out of five going down. And went up there to the dead floor on the fourth floor and got up there and the family was all hanging around there and I heard this Campbellite in another room. Uh, he was right by the bedside. I heard him talking with a dying man. And then praying. And I heard him say... I heard through the window there, I heard him saying, ‘Oh God, help us to so live a just life so that at death you may reward us with eternal life.’ And I thought to myself, ‘You dirty soandso, you blankety blank, why don’t you tell that poor devil how to get saved and all that stuff.’ And out he came.

When he came out, his Alton’s sister poked her head out the door and said, ‘Come in, come here.’ And I went in there, and I went in the door and I came to the door, I saw him all jacked up like a wrecked automobile over there. They had tubes in his nose and everything. He was trying to pull the tubes out and struggling on his own blood, you know. And... and I came there and she said, ‘There’s something I forgot to tell you.’ I said, ‘What’s that?’ She said, ‘Well, do you remember that day that you left him that tract?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And she said, ‘Well, I was down at the coffee shop when I come back up,’

said, ‘He was out of the bed.’ And he had orders not to get out of the bed, he hadn’t been out of bed for two weeks. ‘But he was out of that bed kneeling on the floor, praying over that tract.’

[Onscreen text, 10:23 to 10:41: He knelt down and PRAYED OVER THE TRACT. Ruckman knows three things. Ruckman gave him a tract. Alton got out of the bed and KNELT and PRAYED over it. He KNELT and PRAYED OVER THE TRACT.]

Tyler here, remember " And uh I went went there and his sister was there talking to him.

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman explicitly told Alton Nelson to read the tract, and then call upon the name of the Lord for salvation.

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman tells us the sister saw him praying over the tract, which is obviously in the story Alton Nelson calling upon the Lord. It makes no sense, otherwise.

And she said, ‘Since then he’s been so different.’ And I said, ‘Okay.’ So I went up to him and came up there and got right down next to him, the dying man could hear me, and had to yell in his ear, you know. Right down next to him with all his stuff around there. And I said, ‘Alton,’ I said, ‘Are you trusting nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ to save your soul right now?’ The dying man go like this.

[Onscreen text, 10:41 to 10:47: Alton nodded ‘Yes’, and Ruckman confirmed that’s how he accessed the blood. Let’s pause this and get what Breaker thinks.]

And I said, ‘That day I left you that tract, did you accept Christ as your savior?’ Like that. I said, ‘Bless God, man.’ I had prayer with him and got up and started toward the bottom of the bed and his sister grabbed me by the hand and said, ‘Do you think that’s enough?’”

Card 9: Deceitfully edited. Let’s see how Dr. Ruckman told the story in 2002. (The text from the previous section remains visible behind this card).

[14:58 18:27] Dr. S. Peter Ruckman

Video dated 2002

“...together for good. to them that love God to the called according to his purpose. One time many years ago in Pensacola I was pastoring the Brent Baptist church. Uh, I went down the hospital and I dealt with a Campbellite. That’s the Church of Christ.

Her name was Alton Nelson. He’s in the hospital dying of Bright’s disease I think. That’s where the blood doesn’t get the calcium to the bones or something you start collapsing. You get you get one injection every year, and then you get one injection every other month, then you get one injection a month, then you get one injection a week, then you get one injection a day, and then they bury you.

And uh I went went there and his sister was there talking to him. You know you’re a sinner, and you know you’re gonna go to hell if you die, let let me show you how to get saved if you want to. Try it you ought to try it.’ And I left.

Nothing happened for two years. And after two years, I got a telephone call. And it must have been about midnight Saturday night. Nothing a pastor likes more than a midnight call Saturday night. And that thing said uh on the other end was Alton’s sister. And she said uh ‘Down at the hospital, Brother Ruckman, could you come down to the hospital right away?’ I said, ‘Well, of course.’ She said ‘My brother’s dying out here.’ And I said ‘Well you you said he was a Church of Christ right?’ She said ‘Yes.’ I said ‘Is the Church of Christ preacher down there right now?’ And she said ‘Yes.’ I said ‘Well hell I don’t want to get in argument.’ She said ‘Oh Brother Ruckman, I had to talk to you, I got to talk to you.’ He’s got to talk to you. I said ‘Listen lady I I don’t want to come down there and start a fight with a heretic in the middle of a death floor in a hospital at 1:00 in the morning.’ And she said ‘You just got to come Brother Ruckman.’ I said ‘Okay.’

So I got out my clothes and went. Drove down there got down there about oh about 1:00. Got on the 4th floor, he was dying. And the family was out there and I could hear the Campbellite preacher in the room. There he was praying. ‘Oh Lord help us to so live and keep your commandments that when we die you may reward us with eternal life.’ And I made a cuss. I laid to think ‘you blankety blank tell him how to get saved, tell the poor devil how to get saved man.’ That Campbellite couldn’t tell him how to get saved.

And after a while he comes out of the door. About that time Alton’s sister says ‘Come here.’ So I come over and go in the door. And I go in the door and he’s lying there like a jacked up automobile, you know a bunch of pipes and stuff in him, he’s choking on his blood and he’s trying to pull this rubber tube out with his hand and the nurse keeps taking his hand away so they can suck the blood out of his throat. And as I come in the door Alton’s sister says ‘He said Brother Ruckman something I forgot to tell you.’ I said ‘What’s that?’ She said ‘You remember that day that you came to see him in the hospital?’ I said ‘Yes.’ She said ‘I went out to get some coffee.’ I said ‘Yes.’ She said ‘Well I came back upstairs, he was out of his bed. And the doctors told him not to get out of his bed. And he was out of his bed in the middle of that floor kneeling over that tract and praying. And he said Brother Ruckman ever since then he’s been so different.’ ‘Good man, good.’ So I go around to get...”

[Onscreen text, 18:06 to 18:11: ‘He was out of his bed, in the middle of that floor. Kneeling over that tract, praying, After that, he’s been so different.’ The moment of salvation is linked to praying. Let’s see what Breaker believes.]

[19:18 19:34] Text Card

Card 10: Notice the sequence again: he accesses the blood through two actions, believing and praying a sinner’s prayer. This directly contradicts Robert Breaker, who teaches that salvation is by mental assent (believing) alone. For Breaker, adding a sinner’s prayer turns salvation into a “work.”

[19:35 20:48] Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

Video dated 2002

“...beside the dying man. I get right next to him. I said, ‘Alton, can you hear me?’ I said, ‘Alton, that day I left you that tract, did you trust Christ as your personal savior?’ I said, ‘Are you trusting nothing but his blood to save you right now from your sins?’ I said, ‘Glory to God, man.’ Had prayer with him and got up.

And I started out. His sister grabbed me and said, she said, ‘Oh, do you think that’s enough?’ I said, ‘Lady, if that ain’t enough, everybody in this hospital going to hell. If that ain’t enough, nothing going to do any good.’ That’s right. I went on home. I went on home and hit the bed about 2:30 in the morning.

Got up at about 6:00 and had to shave. Looked felt like I got a hangover or something. Got there and began starting to shave looking in the mirror. Suddenly the joy bells began to ring. Hit the jagged kind of got tapping my feet. You know what was blessing to me? Then to say Campbellite preacher going to hell.

His damnation was my blessing. You know why? I saw what he had didn’t work. And what God gave me worked. And brother, that’s a blessing.”

[20:49 25:15] Text Card

Card 11: The Alton story is not an error. It is a confession of his methods.

So from now on, when you see another one of Breaker’s clips about Ruckman “believing” in Mental Assent and denying sinner’s prayers as a condition to being saved, Remember Alton. Because if a man is willing to lie about a dying man’s prayer, what won’t he lie about?

Since, the making of the video, I found another Alton story, this time from 1995.

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, 1995.

Years ago at Pensacola Florida I had a call one night on a Saturday night it was. And about uh, oh it must have been about one o'clock in the morning. And nothing a pastor likes any better than a call about one o'clock in the morning on a Saturday night. And a lady said "Brother Ruckman, my my brother's down here, Alton Nelson, he's dying. Would you come down and talk to him in the hospital, he's dying right now." And I said "Well," I said "is there a Church of Christ preacher down there?" Campbellite. And I said uh, she said "Yes," I said "Well I don't want to come down and get in an argument with a Campbellite in the middle of a guy's deathbed scene." I said "If this church is down there and he's going to his church and his pastor's down there I better just stay out of it." And she said "Brother Ruckman you've got to come, you dealt with him a few years back, you remember don't you?" and I said "Yeah I remember."

This fella had a, he had what they call Bright's disease. And the calcium in your bones doesn't get to 'em, you get a shot, you get a shot about once every year and then you get a shot every... transfusion, transfusion. About every six months, then a transfusion about every month, a transfusion about every week, and a transfusion every day and then you're gone. And when I saw him he was just thoroughly a part of this stage, and I went up to the hospital room one day and got up there, his sister was up there, this was about three years before this. And I got up there and his sister was up there and she said "I'll slide down to the coffee shop and let you two talk." And she went down to the coffee shop and left me in the room there alone with him, and I dealt with him. He was a Campbellite, Church of Christ. They believe in baptismal regeneration. And but he wasn't argumentative, he was open, I dealt with him. We didn't seem to get anywhere. And I didn't get a decision out of him, but I said "If I leave a tract, will you read it?" He said he would. So I gave him a tract and left the end of the bed and went on about my business. And I sort of forgot about it. Three years went by and then I get this call.

So I said "Okay I'll come down." So I come down, I come down the middle of the night, I get dressed about two o'clock in the morning, get down to that hospital about 2:30 or a quarter of 3, get around the hallway looking to death throwing on a, up reading whether you're going to get something like this like hear this Campbellite preacher in the room talking to a dying man, right? And hear him say "Oh Lord, bless us and may we so live that you can reward us with eternal life." And I bring up against that thing and you talk about, I haven't been mad for it, you dirty dog, you dirty dog. Like to tell that boy, cut his head off you understand, you dirty sword-souled man, I mean the words were coming out of my mind boy. And after a while he came out. The very idea. Helpless. So live, that you may reward us with eternal life. Nuts buddy. With a capital N, nuts. We don't get a reward of eternal life, eternal life's a gift. Do you understand that? And I'm out there and of course this man came out the door and his sister comes over and says "Can I come in?"

I come over there and come in and start to look at the bed, he's all jacked up like a wrecking automobile, got tubes in his nose, he's tying to pull the tubes out, the nurses are keeping him in, he's spitting his own blood, bad scene man. And his and his sister says to me, "Brother Ruckman", she said "there's something I forgot to tell you." I said "What's that?" She said "Well you know that day that you talked to him when when I went down to the coffee shop?" I said "Yeah I remember that day." She said uh, "You know what he was doing when I came back up?" I said "What?" And she said "Well the doctor had told him not to get out of his bed." And she said "When I came back up, he got on the middle of the floor on his hands and knees over that tract that you gave him."

See he knelt down and prayed, which means that he prayed the Sinner's prayer after that tract, meaning this is a pro Sinner's prayer story. I'm gonna keep in the next part so you see Dr. Ruckman connects the blood to the Sinner's prayer. You have to receive the blood through prayer.

Also, we know he prayed because earlier Dr. Peter S. Ruckman told him.

The tract being given is in connected to Dr. Peter S. Ruckman telling him, read the tract and pray to be saved.

We literally know he called upon the Lord for salvation in prayer.

There is no other context that would fit, it would be illogical if he was praying thanksgiving.

And she said "Since then he's acted so different." So I went around there and got right by that fella, his face was and he couldn't move, nothing hard, I got my mouth right down next to his ear and I said uh, "Alton," I said, "I'm the guy who gave you that tract a couple years back in the hospital, you remember me?" He goes "Uh huh". I said "I'm going to ask you, that day that I left that tract did you accept Jesus Christ your personal Savior?" He says "Uh huh". I said "Alright I should have one more question." I said "Are you trusting right now in nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ to take away your sins?" And the guy managed to get out "Uh huh". And I said "Bless God, glory to God man." Had a prayer with him and got up to leave, went out the door his sister grabbed me by the arm and she said "Oh do you think that's enough?" Is it enough? If God came down here as a man and shed his blood, God's blood, can't take away your sins, what in heaven and earth could it? Is that enough? Well plus my shot, if that ain't enough, you folks over this good dead handle keep pushing 'em. Door shut keep 'em away. I went home that night and went to bed.

I got up 'bout seven o'clock next morning, felt good. Now all night hanging on a man, came in got shaving in the mirror and then all of a sudden the joy of the Lord bubbled up again kind of well in my heart got a kinda half a hot amount brought up near you know, I haven't missed trying to know. You know doc, you know what I was thinking? I was thinking, "Ain't life strange? That preacher's damnation was my salvation." I'm getting a blessing out of him being lost. You say why? Because that hospital room I saw what I had worked and what he had didn't. And that was a blessing to me. And we know all things work together for good. To them that Love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
