How to achieve breakthroughs with the power of faith in God

Memorise: “And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad to drink” (Gen 21:19)

Read: Genesis 21:14-19

“And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not” (Isaiah 6:9).Some people are blind to what will destroy them. Others are blind to good things coming their way. Yet others cannot see the opportunities around them. It is also possible to be blind to one’s miracle or help. “And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad to drink” (Genesis 21:19).

When Hagar exhausted the water in her water bottle, she was scared. With no hope of getting water in the wilderness, she thought their appointment with death had come. She wept. She was so preoccupied with negative thoughts that she could not see the well beside her. It took God to open her eyes to see the well. She and Ishmael lived and prospered. In every wilderness journey, there is a well of provision. Just as Hagar could not exhaust the well with her water bottle, so does the well in your wilderness contain more than you need to sustain you in that journey. But until you look up to God in faith, you may not see the well beside you. Stop crying. Dry up your tears. Look up to God and He will open your eyes. Are you undergoing a trial of faith? Look up to Him and He will see you through.

Another lesson here is that although God has made provision for the one undergoing a wilderness experience, yet will the fellow not partake of it until he or she displays pure, raw faith. In this case, it was the baby that cried to God that God answered, not Hagar.

A very committed brother was undergoing a wilderness experience some years ago. The Lord asked him to wed that year. He was prospecting a particular business. His client had agreed to patronize him and was about to give him his new address where he would pick the money, when the line went off. All attempts to get the client on phone were unsuccessful. Later, he got to know that the telephone exchange had been engulfed in flames. Later, he secured admission for his postgraduate studies but had no money.

He and his wife had to wait on the Lord for a while before God opened the door. By the time provision came, it was examination time. He went and took his first semester examination. The same thing happened during the second semester. In fact, after resumption, they had to pray and wait on the Lord and the exam date was moved two times. When it would be moved no more, provision came and he went to take the exam yet he never failed any subject. Your faith is stretched during a trial of faith to know how elastic it is. How elastic is your faith?

Father, give me grace to stand each time my faith is stretched.
