How to Use Three Little Dots  ∴ in Prayer

I don’t remember much from my high school math classes and some might say that they were a waste of time. Those folks don’t know how often I’ve used one of the symbols I learned there. Three little dots,  ∴ placed in the shape of a triangle stand for the word therefore.

I’d spend ages working on a problem before I could write a clear conclusion that went something like this. Because of thus and so  ∴ (therefore) such and such is true. I don’t do fancy math anymore, but every time I see the word therefore in scripture, I mark it with those three little dots. Then I study to see what the therefore is there for.

Paul had a problem to solve and this is his conclusion.

Therefore will I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:10,KJV).

 God’s grace + Paul’s weakness = Christ’s Power
(Therefore) when Paul is weak, he is strong in Christ.

Tired, worn out and weak kneed from prayer? Struggling with family issues? Let’s draw our strength from Christ while he does a little math in our lives!

Prayer:

Lord, may the three little dots of therefore, remind us what you are there for….  In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Do Christian Values Work in What We Call the "Real World"?

In his classic text, The Contemplative Pastor, Eugene Peterson wrote:As a pastor, I don’t like being viewed as nice but insignificant. I bristle when a high-energy executive leaves the place of worship with the comment, ‘This was wonderful, Pastor, but now we have to get back to the real world, don’t we?’ I had thought we were in the most-real world, the world revealed as God’s, a world believed to be invaded by God’s grace and turning on the pivot of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection.
