Is Your Life a Form of Worship?

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” – Hebrews 13:15 (NIV)
Growing up, I thought worship meant singing and praising God with my voice. And trust me, I loved using my voice to bring glory and honor to my Savior and Lord. So many songs, hymns, and scriptures explain this well:
Psalm 96:1-3: “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (NIV).
Psalm 40:3: “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord” (ESV).
Revelation 5:9: “And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,” (ESV).
And yet, Hebrews 13 tells us that our lives can be a sacrifice of praise. Romans 12:1 says it this way: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (NIV). Could it be that worship isn’t just something we do with our voices, but how we conduct our lives?
Instead of viewing worship as an exclusively musical act, we must learn to view it in light of who God is. Yes, He deserves our singing, our shouts of praise, our abounding joy. But, every fabric of our lives—from dancing and running and singing or cooking—can point others to Him. Every day, mundane tasks can be acts of worship if our lives are given in surrender to His will.

Question for Reflection:
Do you struggle to worship God with your whole being? I’ve always been a musical and artistic person—I love nothing more than to write, sing, and dance for Jesus. But did you know you can worship God in whatever you do? Your life is a living sacrifice for Him. This week, I encourage you to make a list of creative ways you can worship God. It doesn’t have to be at Church or include music, but can be anyway you want to show appreciation to our Creator! Some examples might be praying through a nature walk, telling someone about the Gospel, or participating in acts of service for someone in need.
