Musician Benny DiChiara Finds God's Purpose in the Ashes of a Life-Threatening Brain Injury
ORLANDO, Florida – Benny DiChiara, lead singer of the Christian rock band Empowered, is living proof that God can use anything, even a horrific, life-threatening injury to serve His purposes.
One morning in 2015, Benny inexplicably fainted and fell backwards, hitting his head on the hardwood floor in his home. Sensing his fall was serious, his wife drove him to the hospital where medical personnel discovered he had two skull fractures and bleeding on the brain.
What followed was a long, slow road to complete healing. Eventually, after many days of tests and observation, Benny was discharged from the hospital and told to get as much rest as possible. This resulted in him sleeping for 20 hours per day for an entire month.
It was during this time of recovery that Benny heard a voice that could only be the Holy Spirit speaking to him. The message was simple yet very clear: God had great plans for him, specifically, that Benny was to tell others about what He had done for him.
Since that fateful day, Benny has actively and faithfully shared his testimony of God’s mercy and healing through music. Founding and fronting the band Empowered, the group has released four albums which has charted seven number one hits on the Christian Indie charts. But most importantly, their music has paved the way for Benny to share his powerful testimony with more than one million people worldwide.I recently sat down with Benny to discuss how his traumatic experience had such a profound impact on his faith and ministry, how it taught him to be unafraid in all situations, and why he sees every note of every song as an opportunity to share the good news of what God did for him.
