My Statement on the Attempted Assassination of Former President Trump

On Saturday night, July 13, the unthinkable occurred. An assassination attempt was made on the 45th President of the United States as he spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania. Thankfully, the assailant was stopped, but not before he had discharged several rounds from his vantage point on a nearby roof, claiming one life and critically injuring two others. One of the bullets grazed the ear of Donald Trump, and it was nothing short of miraculous that he survived as the bullet passed mere millimeters from a fatal impact.

The Secret Service swiftly secured the stage, and as President Trump was escorted to his car, he pumped a fist in the air, exclaiming “Fight!”—a gesture to reassure America of his well-being. This brave display gave new meaning to the saying “grace under fire.”

We often speak of someone “dodging a bullet,” but for President Trump, this became reality. We thank God he was spared and pray for his complete recovery. Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased, and we fervently pray for the swift healing of the two critically wounded individuals and for God’s hand of comfort over everyone who was affected by this senseless act of political violence.

We also pray for our nation, for its leaders, and for God’s protection on both candidates running for the presidency this year. The political discourse has reached an unprecedented level of hostility. Labeling President Trump an “existential threat” and drawing comparisons to Hitler must stop. It is crucial that we dial back the inflammatory rhetoric and allow the American people to make their choice at the ballot box.

America stands at a pivotal crossroads, and now more than ever, we need God, we need the Bible, and we need the redemptive power of Jesus Christ.
