New Jerusalem is Built with Precious Materials (2)

Revelation 21:21 says of New Jerusalem, “the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates was, respectively, of one pearl.” Like the gold of the city, the pearls too are not physical, but are spiritual symbols.

The twelve gates of the city are twelve pearls. Pearls are produced by oysters in the waters of death….This is a picture of Christ’s redeeming and overcoming death and of His life-imparting and producing resurrection with the secretion of His life around us to make us pearls. Christ as the living One came into the death waters, was wounded by us, and secreted His life over us to make us into precious pearls for the building of God’s eternal expression.*

Through Adam sin and death came to all men, as we read in Romans 5. Jesus Christ came into this death environment and was made sin to die for us that we might be redeemed and reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:18-20).

After He died, on the third day he rose! This released the divine life for His multiplication, his enlargement. In John 12:24 He told us, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” All the believers are the much fruit borne by Him.

In this picture of the one Grain being multiplied, we as the many grains are brought forth in resurrection and blended together into one loaf. This, like the pearl, is the result of Christ’s death and resurrection. The ultimate issue is New Jerusalem.
