Nutrition for Growth to New Jerusalem
We have been born again with the divine, eternal life and now we are growing to maturity for New Jerusalem. Here are verses about our growth to maturity:
In Ephesians 4:11-13 Christ the Head gave gifted persons “for the perfecting of the saints unto the work of the ministry, unto the building up of the Body of Christ, until we all arrive at…a full-grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”
In Colossians 1:29 Paul tells us that he announces Christ “admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom that we may present every man full-grown in Christ.”
In Colossians 4:12 Epaphras, who was with Paul, was “always struggling on your behalf in his prayers that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.”
For this growth we need spiritual nutrition. This begins (as it does with human infants) with milk. “As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, if you have tasted that the Lord is good” (1 Peter 2:2-3). Our goal should not be merely to understand the word of God but more to receiive the milk in it and to taste the Lord.
With the milk of the word we progress to solid food for nourishment. “Everyone who partakes of milk is an infant; but solid food is for the full-grown” (Heb. 5:13-14). May we all progress in our growth and preparation for New Jerusalem.
