Our devotion to God shouldn’t be dependent on other people.

Good day beautiful people,

I hope that this post meets you and your loved one’s well? Today’s post has been inspired by the passage Ezekiel chapter 44, verse 15. I pray that this piece of writing will be of encouragement to those who read and that we as Christians will not allow our circumstances or feelings to determine our theology. God is good irrespective of the circumstances we find ourselves in. God is kind even when we encounter pain and suffering. God is great even when the road which lies ahead of us is tough. For there is no greater love than the love of God.

Ezekiel 44:15 ~ “However, the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok continued to minister faithfully in the Temple when Israel abandoned me for idols. These men will serve as my ministers. They will stand in my presence and offer the fat and blood of the sacrifices, says the Sovereign Lord.”

^^^Even if others abandon God we are to remain faithful to Him! Our devotion to God shouldn’t depend on what other people do, or do not do. Otherwise, if this is the case, our faith is weak and we will waiver easily. We can see from the above passage that the family of Zadok remained faithful to God even when others didn’t. They were determined to obey God and not worship idols.

You can be on the right side of history yet be on the wrong side of God. You could be down with the crowd, yet be so far away from God.

The reason I say this is because recently I came across an interview with someone who stated that they had left Christianity because they felt that Christians in the West were not serious enough, whereas when they travelled to another side of the world people routinely gathered together for worship every Friday. This individual said that they could feel the religion in the air. But as Christians, we must realise that we are not to live a life where we allow our feelings to dictate to us how we should live, rather we should look to God’s Word to be our guide because our feelings don’t always reflect reality.

Proverbs 3:5 ~ “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”

[Side note: As mentioned earlier our connection with God should not be dependent on what other people do or do not do, for example, “I didn’t feel the Holy Spirit because the keyboardist lacked ability”. To me this statement is another form of new ageism thinking filtering into the church. This is because worship in some churches is no longer about focusing on God instead it’s all about how people ‘feel’ about themselves. We should look to God’s Word regarding matters relating to the pattern of worship we should follow instead of prioritising chasing after something spectacular/sensational. We are to rely on God’s Word alone. Another example that comes to mind is when individuals say “I don’t feel forgiven”. It doesn’t matter how you ‘feel’ because the blood of Christ is greater than our guilty conscience and the Bible says once we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive (1 John 1:9). So, you don’t have to feel anything special or break down and cry in order to receive forgiveness. What God requires is for us to sincerely, confess our sins and believe in Him. We need to stop putting ourselves into the equation. We can’t save ourselves it’s ALL about God, and not about us.

1 John 3:20 ~ “Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.”

P.S. Never ever throw in the towel keep on trusting God, have faith and believe in His Holy Word.

Proverbs 24:10 ~ If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small].

God bless and thank you very much for reading. Continue to stay safe.
