As Christians, we often look to the stories of biblical characters for inspiration and guidance. From David and Goliath to Moses and the burning bush, their stories of faith and courage continue to inspire us today. But what many of us may not realize is that these heroes of the faith often struggled with feelings of unworthiness and doubt. We think they were probably full of confidence or arrogance, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Moses

Take Moses, for example. When God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses responded, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11). Despite his doubts, God assured Moses that He would be with him every step of the way.

David

Likewise, David, who would later become king of Israel, was initially seen as unworthy even by his own family. When the prophet Samuel came to anoint one of Jesse’s sons as the next king, David was not even invited to the gathering. It was only after God revealed to Samuel that David was the chosen one that he was anointed as king.

These stories, and many others like them, show us that even the most faithful people can struggle with feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness. But what sets these individuals apart is their willingness to let God accomplish great things through them. They went to God in prayer and asked for God’s will over their own desires.

Paul

So how can we, too, let God work through us despite our own feelings of unworthiness? The answer lies in surrendering ourselves to Him completely. As the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Galatians, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).

When we allow Christ to live in us, we can trust that He will use us for His purposes, even if we feel inadequate or unworthy. As the apostle Peter wrote, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).

Wrap-up

So, whether you’re a photographer, a writer, a teacher, or any other kind of creative or professional, remember that your worth and value do not come from your own accomplishments, but from your identity in Christ. Surrender yourself to Him and let Him use you to accomplish great things for His kingdom. Overcome your feelings of unworthiness through faith.
