Redemption unto the Glory of New Jerusalem

Many Christians are familiar with the redemption accomplished by Christ Jesus on the cross. Through this redemption we receive forgiveness of sins (Eph. 1:7) and are justified (Rom. 3:24). Thank Him for this!

The New Testament also speaks of another redemption. That will be when we see “the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” (Luke 21:27-28). This will be the redemption of our “mortal body” (Rom 6:12), “the body of our humiliation.”  Without this step of redemption we are not fully qualified for New Jerusalem.

(Do not think you are handsome or beautiful; in God’s eyes our body of sin and death is ugly.)

Philippians 3:20-21 speaks of this redemption. It says that our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, “will transfigure the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of His glory.” Romans 8:23, in reference to this, says it will be our full sonship.

The glorification in Philippians and the maturity in Romans are characteristics of New Jerusalem.

We have been reborn in our spirit and are now being transformed in our soul, especially by the renewing of our mind. The redemption of our body will occur when the Lord Jesus returns visibly. Second Thessalonians 1:10 tells us that our Lord “comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed.” This brings us onward to the glory of New Jerusalem!
