Rev Bill Hybels resigns from Willow Creek Church. Storm not over. - Divorce Minister

***Update to my posts (here and here) on the Willow Creek Church and founder Rev. Bill Hybels situation where Hybels was accused of sexually inappropriate behavior***

Rev. Bill Hybels officially resigned last night from being the lead pastor at the megachurch he founded, Willow Creek Church. Here is a link to the official statement from him and other WCC leaders (click here).

Hybels takes “ownership” in stating the following from the official statement:

Secondly, I realize now that in certain settings and circumstances in the past I communicated things that were perceived in ways I did not intend, at times making people feel uncomfortable. I was blind to this dynamic for far too long. For that I’m very sorry.

This is such a load of “sorry, not sorry” sort of statement. It is verbal jujitsu where he claims to own the issue then throw it back on those who “perceived [him/his actions] in ways [he] did not intend….”

Lame.

I doubt this is the end of the saga, though. It certainly isn’t for the alleged victims of his alleged (and likely, IMO) abuse of power.

    It’s Going to Be Okay

It was one of the worst days of my life. Tragedy struck our family in the worst way and I was emotionally paralyzed. That’s when my friend, Mary, stepped in to do what I couldn’t. She made me a hotel reservation, called the necessary people, and said, “It’s going to be okay.” “It’s going to be okay” is one of the most hope-filled sentiments I can offer to others, Read more...
