Robert Breaker's Milton Gospel, as defined by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, and its coinage

Thank you to Brother Don, the Lord's bloodhound (his youtube handle is @w46try7), for sounding the alarm about Robert Ray Breaker III.

The term "Milton Gospel" is a polemic, invented by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman against Robert Ray Breaker III's soteriology that the sinner's prayer is not needed, and that salvation is achieved by specifically trusting in the blood of Christ for salvation.

The backstory of this is that in early 2010, Robert Ray Breaker III, in the aftermath of his father's death, sent his father's and his own material to various churches, including Dr. Peter S. Ruckman's.

https://archive.is/sAbqS

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman then wrote this letter replying to Breaker.

"Mr. Breaker,

I have neither the time nor the interest to help you into the 'big time' after you failed as a missionary AND evangelist.

We didn't dump you as a missionary because of any problem over ANY translation in ANY language. WE dropped you because:

1. You lied about being a pastor at Garcon Point—you only 'supplied' a couple of times when the pastor was absent. You didn't win a soul to Christ the entire time you 'pastured' either in Honduras.

2. You did not really pastor anyone in Honduras.

You did exactly what you are doing now—traveling back and forth to the States. THEN you were doing it to visit your girlfriend. You are now doing it to establish yourself as an authority on foreign translations—as a 'saviour' to Hispanics.

3. You have always preached a lousy 'Milton Gospel' established in your hometown, (Milton, Fla.)...

The $500 I gave to Park before you knew him, or met him, was after a conversation with him and a Mexican named Reyes. They told me they were interested in translating the AV into Spanish.

Neither one did. Reyes turned out to be a pastor who had some people in his church who wanted to revise another revision of Valera.

When Park sent you the letter that you mailed to me, he said, 'Our positions' and 'US.' He never mentioned his 'buddy,' (you), the entire time I talked with him. YOU CONTACTED HIM AFTER I GAVE HIM THE MONEY.

Typical Breaker 'move'!

If I had known YOU were involved in the translation, I would not have given him a dime.

No, sonny boy, I have never posed as an authority on any foreign translations. The interpreter uses Luther when I preach in Germany; the interpreter uses Valera when I preach in Mexico; the interpreter uses the version by Song Lee when I preach in Korea. I DON'T TELL ANY FOREIGN INTERPRETER WHAT BOOK HE USES; HE IS TRANSLATING FROM A KING JAMES SERMON FROM START TO FINISH.

Your position is so apparent that it is disgusting. There is nothing in anything you write that mentions LOST Hispanics or SOUL winning. Your MOTIVE of getting embroiled in an intellectual discussion over versions is ROTTEN. You are simply making a name for yourself by riding on the spirituality of 'OTHERS.' In this case, Reyes, Park, Gomez, McArdle, and others.

You, yourself, have never produced anything. Now you are trying to get publicity by attacking BOOKS SO YOU CAN SELL YOUR OWN BOOKS, that is, according to your books which you sent me.

Our Mission Board and Board of Trustees know EXACTLY what your 'ministry' is; that's why they dumped you.

All of your publicity-mad little nobodies, (trying to hotdog it all the time), only want to be recognized as SPIRITUAL LEADERS. To do this, you are forced to associate yourself sooner or later with 'Dr. Ruckman.' You all have to hang on my shirt tail to get a hearing in the Body of Christ. Evidently, 'Dr. Ruckman' must be in the spotlight since all of you are struggling to get into it. You're getting connected with the wrong crew. Weldon Jones, (a life-long missionary to Hispanics), led more Hispanics to Jesus Christ in one YEAR with an 'impure Valera' - THAN YOU DID IN 7 YEARS WHILE SPENDING YOUR TIME IN STOPPING THE PUBLICATIONS OF THE VALERA YOU DIDN'T LIKE.

Your 'life work,' sonny boy, is your self-magnification of yourself as an authority on a foreign language.

I've never wasted half a sheet of paper, buddy, trying to prove that Diodoti, Valera, Luther, Visoiy of Michaelis were in error; nor that Olivetan or Erdosi or Song Lee should be corrected.

I was always too busy training young men as Bible believing, street preaching, soul winners, (over 400 of them), ordaining them, (over 150 of them), and sending them out as missionaries, (54 of them), to preach in 17 different foreign languages; while I was preaching in 91 prisons, where I have seen more grown men genuinely converted in A YEAR as you, or Park, or Reyes, McVey have seen in ten years.

In the future, send all of your mail to the head of the Bookstore, ([name left out]). I don't have time to waste with 'hot-doggers' - WHOSE MOTIVES ARE NOT TO GET ANYONE SAVED; IT IS TO MAKE A GOOD INCOME FOR THEMSELVES BY ESTABLISHING THEMSELVES AS AUTHORITIES WHO CAN CHALLENGE DR. RUCKMAN. You all have to hang on my shirt tail. Wrong league, stupid. You're not in my league, nor are your 'buddies.'

You are in 'THE SCHOLARLY COMMUNITY LEAGUE; STAY THERE!'" - Dr. Ruckman, https://archive.is/1Ub0P

In it, he coined the term "Milton Gospel."

While Breaker did not originally name Dr. Peter S. Ruckman in the letter (I have changed it to say Dr. Peter S. Ruckman for clarity), Robert Breaker's former associate, Reyes (same Reyes as the letter), named this as Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, and Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church eventually named it as Dr. Peter S. Ruckman.

This is from a video when Robert Ray Breaker III accuses Dr. Peter S. Ruckman of very awful things.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxmt6zA9j48

Robert Breaker has said multiple times Dr. Peter S. Ruckman was mistaken, he was referring to another church, here's just one.

"Then he says, 'You preached a lousy Milton gospel established in your hometown, Milton, Florida. It is still preached daily by, and I won't say this guy's name, and formerly by brother, and I won't say his name.' He lumps me in with a crowd of people in Milton, Florida that I had nothing to do with. They have a big radio ministry and he listens to that radio ministry. He assumed that I was a part of them and their ministry and I'm not. So, I don't appreciate that." - Robert Breaker, The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth! by Robert Breaker, 42:01

Robert Breaker's reading and interpretation of this is disingenuous at best, and false. It has been debunked.

Like every lie, it must have a nugget of truth.

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman did in fact connect Robert Breaker to the Milton Church, for the same reason he said Roman Catholics and Mormons are the same thing, due to their theological similarities.

"Uh, you you want to find out whether you're saved, it's real simple. If you don't If you don't know you're saved, don't have assurance, I can tell you how to get assurance. You might have been saved 30, 40 years ago, I don't know. If you could thought you were saved then, maybe you were, maybe I wasn't there. But I can tell you how to know you're saved right now. All you have to do is ask yourself this one question, Christian: What am I trusting to keep me out of hell? Right now. I take for granted you trusted him back then when you did it. I preach hell to the kids. I tell them they're going to hell without Christ. I tell them they need Christ, give invitation to receive Christ. If they're sincere, that's done. Ask yourself right now, what am I trusting to keep me out of hell? And when when you land on that right thing, if you're trusting nothing but the blood of Christ to save you, you are saved, whether you understood that or not. That old Dewey Morris, that fellow there, Breaker going around saying, "Well, you got to have the blood in your confession of faith. If they don't pray for the blood of Christ to save, and the blood that's been shed." Philip led that Ethiopian eunuch to the Lord, and the word blood isn't mentioned one time in that conversion. You see, he's reading Isaiah 53. You won't find the word blood in Isaiah 53. It isn't there. And it's on the atonement. That's what you're getting from those fellows. You're getting a bunch of dumb, stupid people who can't read the Bible. I say that with charity, of course. All right, back to 1 John. Uh that's what comes from fooling with that kind of stuff there." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman,

"All right, 10:29. Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, watch it, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified. That fellow was sanctified by the blood of Christ and turned it down. And 30, 31, that fellow's an unsaved man. But he was sanctified, set apart by the blood that was shed for him. Now, if you want to see how the thing works, come to 2 Corinthians. Turn to 2 Corinthians 5. Notice how you can really get a real contradiction out of this, if you fool with it like the folks over in Milton, and they're really fooled with it. Part of your salvation is when Christ dies on the cross, technically speaking, everybody should be saved right on the spot. And here's why. 2 Corinthians 5, verse, 2 Corinthians 5, verse 19. To wit, it's a legal term, that means that is at this specifically, to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. Well, everything's okay, isn't it? He was in Christ and reconciled the world to himself. Well, it must be all right then, okay? No, it ain't. Now, keep reading. Not imputing their trespasses unto them. Then no sins are charged to them. No unsaved man is going to hell, so he's taken care of. Christ died, reconciled himself, and took all their sins and charged them to Christ. So when they die, they don't have any sin on them, right? No, no, that isn't right. Now, that's what they're giving you over there in, in Milton. They're saying, well, if you, all you have to do is believe that, and if you believe that, you're saved, and if you don't believe that, you're not saved. They, play with soul winning is out. You don't tell the fellow you believe in Christ, you don't have him let Christ come into his heart or say save me. Over in Milton, they teach over that radio station every five days a week that calling upon Christ doesn't save you unless you believe this as it's worded. If you believe that as it's worded, you wouldn't have to call upon Christ." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, the beginning of the video.

We know Dr. Peter S. Ruckman was not confused about Breaker's theology, as he made three points on it.

1. Dr. Peter S. Ruckman continues denouncing Breaker's Bible translation.

"Well, Brother Breaker, a graduate of this school, and he's trying to sell his own Mexican Bible right now," - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

2. Robert Breaker says if you doubt your salvation, you've never been saved, this is veritably Robert Breaker's doctrine.

"is going all over the country saying—and I've got it in print—that if you doubt your salvation, you've never really been saved. So you know what they do? His kind of people, and they got they got a missionary conference coming up here this week, I think, bringing all these fellows around to teach this junk. And what they're telling you is that if you doubt your salvation, you couldn't have really been saved." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

"So why would you doubt if you were born again? Does that make sense? That's the dumbest thing ever. 'I don't know if I'm saved or not.' It's because you're not then! That's the only thing it could be. Because you don't doubt if you've been born." - Robert Ray Breaker III (of the Cloud Church)

3. He says calling is a work, which Dr. Peter S. Ruckman disagrees with.

"Well, that's a crock. They take the passage in Romans that says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." You know what I've heard him do? Old Dewey over there? He goes back in the Old Testament and says, "To call upon the name of the Lord is not a reference to you getting saved, because everybody in the Old Testament, when they called upon the name name of the Lord, it was just to save them from some kind of trouble." But boy, all of Romans 10 is on salvation." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

"But boy, all of Romans 10 is on salvation. Nobody's praying about trouble. "If thou shalt believe in thine heart that God raised..." it says, "thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; with the mouth the mouth, the mouth, the mouth, not the mind, not the head, the mouth, buddy, the mouth. And with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the mouth, buddy, call upon the name, thou shalt be saved." Now what they're doing is saying this: You went down here to vacation Bible school, maybe didn't understand it, and probably some of those aren't really saved, probably they didn't understand it. But when I get up here and preach the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ to anybody, I'm preaching the gospel. Death, burial, and resurrection. And I'm asking them to believe that Christ died for their sins, was buried, and rose again the third day from the dead. Now, if they hear that and and want to express their belief, they come down and they kneel and they ask God to save them. Hugh Pyle said to me, "Do you believe this Bible the word of God?" "Uh-huh." "You believe you're a sinner?" "Uh-huh." "You believe God could save a sinner?" "I guess he could." "You believe he could save you?" "I don't know. I guess he could." "Would you ask him to save you?" "Sure." "Take my hand." I take his hand. He said, "Now, just in your own words, ask Christ to save you." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

"For funsies, let's do what these guys will never do. Let's actually go there and see what it says. You want to? Well, let's actually look at this thing in a dispensational mindset. Let's go to Joel chapter 2 and verse 32. Didn't we study the book of Joel? I think we did, verse by verse. And Joel is a prophet of Israel who's writing to Israel about things that are going to happen in the future. And in Joel chapter 2, look at what it says. Okay, Joel chapter 2 and look at verse 32. Joel 2:32, we read these words: 'And it will come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.' So there will be a time in the future when Jews call upon the Lord and they're saved by him, delivered maybe physically, maybe not spiritually, but somehow he's delivering them from the Antichrist. Does that sound like our gospel today?" - Robert Ray Breaker III

4. Robert Breaker's soteriology has the blood as the object of faith.

"I didn't mean to get preaching, but let me tell you, the- the- the touchstone of that Bible is not baptism. That can't always settle it. You might have been saved there before that, maybe you weren't. The touch- touchstone is not not even just what you just believe. The people at Pentecost were all saved, and none of them knew anything about the imputed righteousness of Christ. Peter never mentioned THE BLOOD in the whole chapter! He didn't mention Christ dying for anybody's sins in Roman- in Acts chapter 2. And they all got saved and got the Holy Spirit, and didn't have any assurance because nobody even talked- Well, he didn't talk about the blood atonement in Acts chapter 3. He said, 'You'll soon get blotted out when the Lord comes back.' He didn't even know. Peter didn't know they were blotted out now after he'd been preaching for two or three years. But they were saved right then when they- when they did what? When they received Christ. It's when you receive Christ, you're saved. And when you receive Christ, you receive him. 'Come in, I accept you. I want you. I need you. Please help me.' You go to him, and you receive him. And when you receive him, you get the whole luggage- baggage, luggage, because he brings it with him. When you take him, you take the imputed righteousness of God, and you've got God's righteousness. It's when did you receive him, that's when." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman

"If it's not through faith in his blood, if salvation is through faith, what's our faith supposed to be in? The blood. But there are people out there saying no, you don't need to know that, you don't need to understand that, you don't need to know anything about it (the blood). No, you just come do this thing over here and if you do this then you're saved. Then let's throw our Bibles in the garbage then, because we don't need that, right? No, the Bible tells us what our faith is to be in, and if our faith is not in that, then are we saved? So do you see the importance of preaching faith in the blood?" - Robert Breaker, Shallow Soulwinning: The Sinner's Prayer Deception,

So, Robert Ray Breaker III is claiming mistaken identity despite Dr. Peter S. Ruckman the same year as the letter very much knowing his theological views.

Anyway, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman gives an account of the same Milton Church in his 2003 book, Romans Commentary (The Bible Believers Commentary Series).

"Notice in verse 17 that when 'death reigned by one' it is because 'death PASSED upon all men' (vs. 12). The result of Adam's sin was automatic to all of mankind. But if you are going to get the 'reign in life,' you are going to have to 'RECEIVE the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness.' John 1:12, 'But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.'

That is important to get, because there is a teaching traveling through Bible-believing Baptist churches (in my area, it is espoused by the Faith Baptist Church in Milton, Florida, and its former pastor, Mac Johnson, now deceased) that your salvation is already paid and your sins are already forgiven and you are welcome in Heaven. All you have to do is to consent to the fact that you are already saved; you are to thank God that He has already saved you, but for God's sake, don't ask God to save you: that is 'works salvation.' All the clowns are not in the circus.

Your salvation is already paid. Yes, you are welcome in Heaven if you will come to the Saviour. But no, your sins are not already forgiven until you take advantage of the means of forgiveness: the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Applying the blood atonement to your sins goes far beyond mere consent to the facts of the Gospel on your behalf. You must personally accept the sacrifice made for you. You place your complete trust in Christ alone, and His atoning work, for your salvation. You receive Him into your body as Saviour (we usually say heart because that is the seat of the emotions and we are receiving the gift of God's love—John 3:16—on our behalf, but the Bible teaches that Christ, upon salvation, enters the body as a whole [1 Cor. 6:19–20; Col. 1:27]). How do you do that?

Romans 10:9–10, 13, 'That if thou shalt CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the HEART MAN BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; and with the MOUTH CONFESSION IS MADE UNTO SALVATION.... For whosoever shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'

Now, I love Acts 16:31 just as much as any saved sinner. But trying to interpret Romans 10:9–10, 13 in light of Acts 16:31 is like a Fundamentalist trying to interpret Matthew 19:9 in light of Mark 10:11, instead of the other way around. It is interpreting a complete statement in the light of an incomplete statement, and that will lead to heresy every time. You always interpret an incomplete statement in the Bible by a complete statement. Why? Because the complete statement contains all of the truth, not just part of it.

Romans 10:9–10, 13 give the place of belief in salvation, and John 1:12 defines the kind of belief that saves. Trying to override those passages with a private interpretation of Acts 16:31 is merely a desperate attempt to retread a bunch of weak Christians because no real soulwinning is going on.

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Notice for the third time in verse 18: 'the free gift.' The phrase occurred in verse 15, verse 16, and now in verse 18. In verse 18, 'the free gift' is in italics. They have been added to bring sense to the verse because 'they were not in the original text.' But that is a purposeful addition by the King James translators under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Without those italicized words, the clause has no subject and no verb. The subject in the context is 'the gift,' and it is twice described as 'the free gift.' That 'free gift' is 'by grace' (vs. 15) and is said to have 'appeared to all men' (Titus 2:11). Moreover, 'the free gift' is 'the gift of righteousness' (vs. 17) and is 'by the righteousness' (vs. 18) of Jesus Christ (vs. 15). So far from being merely an indication of words added to the text, the italics also give emphasis, in places like verse 18, to words the Holy Spirit wants you to notice.

Thank God that when He gave you the gift of 'eternal life' (Rom. 6:23) and 'the gift of righteousness' (vs. 17), that it is a true gift: a 'free gift.' It is not like the kind of gift about which the Campbellites and the Catholics teach. You don't have to earn it, you don't have to deserve it, you don't have to pay for it. It has already been paid for by God and offered to you freely. All you have to do is to take it." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Romans Commentary (The Bible Believers Commentary Series), Chapter 5

Again, he directly knows what Robert Breaker actually teaches and what Milton themselves teaches.

This is another instance of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman talking about a church in Milton, although not verifiable about the Milton church who ran the radio station, it seems eerily close to Robert Breaker's theology.

"There is a church over in Milton that specializes in 'converting' all its members. What the preacher does is take a verse from the Gospels or the Old Testament, or one aimed at someone here on earth in the Tribulation or the Millennium, and put it on saved people in the body of Christ (the Catholics, Episcopalians, Methodists, 'Free Will' Baptists, Pentecostals, Holiness, and Church of Christ all do the same thing). Then the preacher will tell his congregation that if they ever doubted their salvation, they were lost. So anyone who has ever had a doubt is 'retreaded.' The pastor's own son made seven professions of faith, and he was the youth director of the church when he made at least three of them." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, Chapter 5

So, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman did not have an example of mistaken identity.
