Sunday Stillness - Can you be as bold as the Gecko? - Growing Through God's Word
Sunday Stillness – Can you be as bold as the Gecko?
Today is the last on my Bible Study of tiny animals that show power in incredible ways from Proverbs 30.
a lizard can be caught with the hand,
yet it is found in kings’ palaces (Proverbs 30:28, NIV).
Most commentaries say that the lizard is a gecko. Since we spend some time in Arizona during the winter, I am familiar with these little guys. They can run up the walls and even though they can be caught they can get through the tiniest of crevices. And they don’t care whether they inhabit the homes of the rich or the poor. They also catch flies and other bugs and that’s one of the reasons that Arizona is almost bug free.
Turning to the meaning for our lives as Christians: The lizard can be found anywhere – in every place. Can we be that way?
What did I learn from these 4 passages about the tiny ones?
I read the passage this time from The Message. I love the words of what each animal can do even though they are small.
There are four small creatures,
wisest of the wise they are—ants—frail as they are,
get plenty of food in for the winter;
marmots—vulnerable as they are,
manage to arrange for rock-solid homes;
locusts—leaderless insects,
yet they strip the field like an army regiment;
lizards—easy enough to catch,
but they sneak past vigilant palace guards (Proverbs 30:24-18, The Message).
Here is what I learned:
Be hard-working like the ant,
Like the coney (hydrax, rock badger), seek God, my Rock and Protector,
Work together like locusts to be God’s armies and spread the Gospel to the world.
Be bold like the lizard and enter all homes to speak the name of Jesus.
